When you look at changing motors, then you are going to mess with everything else. Suspension/handling, driveline mods, not to mention the electronics/wiring. Still would not be cost effective.

I wish they still made the M95 or something similiar. I like the power numbers on the M90 and M109, but not a huge fan of the styling.

I did a ton of research on this and ultimately abandoned the idea because it was cost prohibitive. If my primary goal was to modify and M50 it would have been worth it but the bike, as great as it is, is only so powerful. The bike handles awesome and has plenty of power but if you’re new to biking you reach a point when you want to try something else. This is especially true if the M50 is your first bike. Not long ago 800cc was considered a midsize muscle cruiser. Recently motorcycle manufacturers have gone through a displacement race and consequently have come up with monster bikes in excess of 2k cc. So if the M50 was your first bike you got an initial adrenaline rush of starting out on a “big” bike that had more power than you needed. Now that you have mastered this size bike you’re searching for your next adrenaline rush. So if you love the M for what it is its very understandable because it truly is an awesome bike and if you find yourself looking for a little more power it’s understandable too because you’re looking for that next fix.

The m90 motor is a LOT larger physically in all three dimensions, so it will not fit in a M50 frame, and the M50 radiator, brakes, final drive, and suspension are not up to handling the extra weight and power anyways. Not to mention that even if you could find a M90 motor and electronics it would set you back thousands.

It would bea lot easier to get a M90 and fabricate custom body work to make it look like an overgrown M50 than it would be to try and make your M50 run like an M90.

i realize that, wasnt quite serious. im content enought for now till i can afford a bigger bike i'll actually probably have to get 2 bikes. one for speed and one for trips. the old lady really likes the harley ultras and their giant heated leather seats.

WOW lots of nay sayers here--LOL

I heard the same things when I wanted to work my Sentra SE-R "dont waste the time or money" BLAH BLAH.....

The outcome was spending abour 2500 bucks and having a 300HP turbo SE-R that outperformed most cars on the road!!!!

But enough of that--I just wanted to know if the option was available, but its not so there is that. Im not gonna custom make anything or go off the deep end, Im just gonna enjoy what I have and thats that.

To the people that dont get it--you never will because you never modify anything and are satisfied with being ordinary--to the ones that get it, Thanks for the info.

don't get me wrong... i was thinking of dry shots of nitrous at one point... but then i cam to realize, it's just not the bike to do that kinda work on...

a 109 maybe...even a c90...
not the 50 tho... it just don't have "teh ballz" to begin with...

but by all means, go do your cams and see if the price per hp gain is worth it

not to offend anyone but there are 2 types of people in the world. those those who enjoy customizing heavily and those to dont see the need. some of us just want to make the most of what we have on a limited budget. someitmes a $1000 investment pays off just as much as a new vehicle for $6000 more. i'd rather save money for a new bike even tho i love my m50 but for me and my financial situation, it doesnt make sense to be going to a larger bike.

like from a busa??? were v-twin guys. thats what our bikes are. and buying a new bike for more power would be fine. when would you like to give me a donation? i think ill spend the money on cams. if we were to do an engine swap a M90 engine would be lovely. and that would be some serious moding and money.

The funny part is all the people that say it CAN'T BE DONE or ISN'T WORTH IT would be on line with us to order them if the part was available !!!!

When people say things like --Feel free to spend like 8K to get like 2HP I will buy a bigger bike---Do me a favor, Take off your pipes and intakes and fuel computers and go buy a new bike for 15K because its not worth it to mod your bike.

If it wasn't for people like US that mod our bikes there would be no pipes, or chrome or anything else for you to put on your bikes because if noone buys noone makes them for us. SSSOOOOOOO if 100 people wanted cams for our bikes and contacted a manufacturer someone would make them !!!!!
LIKE THEY DO ON EVERY OTHER FORUM OUT THERE!!!!!

Ok im done--LOL

First of all if you want to bore out your bike read Hamlet or Thoreau "Do not hire a man who does your work for money, but him who does it for love of it." (Good read but not for the bike)

Second if you want it to perform better two cheap mods are:
One: get the bike to lose some weight
Two: U also lose some weight
And go from there

Didnt say it couldnt be done, just that it will take more then sliding a cam in(head work, piston machining or new pistons, valve springs..ect.) Sure it can be done, but I promise you, it wont be cheap.

wow. someone piss in your cornflakes?
here's a question for you. if you were just to change out
the cam... what kind of performance boost would that do?

why change out just the cam?

i'm all for modifying anything as long as the gains are worth it.

I look at it this way it's a cruiser, v twins, with their long stroke don't really like to rev anyway.

Do you really want to move the power band up in the rev range at the expense of low end torque? These heavy bikes NEED low end power.
