Hello all I just got my hands on an extra set of used OEM pipes for my M50 to play with. Of course, the fibrosleeve is part of the plan. But the other possibilities are endless since I have access to a complete machine/fab shop. Some of the things I am thinking about are shortening of the pipes (straight-cut or outside-facing slash cut) and powder coating all or part of the pipes black. I bought one of these at Harbor Freight some time ago for $50 and have never used it. I might as well give it a try. Only thing I am missing is a large enough oven to cure the powder: Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices Looks like I will be spending some time with the old photoshop as I try to decide what to do. As far as the fibrosleeves, one of the things I am thinking of doing is to make it a self-contained slide-in "cartridge". In other words have an inner and outer metal sleeve with end caps, and the fiberglass packing inside. Of course the inner sleeve will be drilled full of holes like a sieve. The cartridge will be slid into the mufflers and then held in by one bolt on the blind-side of the pipes. Maybe the original baffles could be used as the inner sleeve? Wonder what the effect would be if I removed the mickey and cyclops and wrapped the baffle with the fiberglass and stuck it back in there??? The reason I am thinking about this is that I don't feel too comfortable about the long term durability of the screen material that everyone else is using. My question for those of you who have made the fibrosleeve is what is the inside diameter of the sleeve after it is installed? (in other words the diameter of the hole). I am inviting all comments and suggestions. I promise to keep you all updated and informed when I start work on the project. ps. I was shocked to see those skinny little pipes hiding behind the chrome covers. I had no idea the pipes looked like that. |
