Default Wildlife incident

So I'm riding two up at 2 am back to Bloomington from Decatur (Illinois) moving about 70 in a 65. Had all my lights on (stock headlamp haven't replaced the silverstar bulb from when it caught on fire- will be doing so tomorrow) and 2 55-watt driving lights. From the median a see a blur come running out and straight for my path, swerve wasn't an option do to a truck on the right lane. Branked hard after shifting right in the lane and relizing i was going to hit it either way and downshifted made it down to about 50 mph before impact. Coyote slams into the side of my bike, bouncing off my crash bars and my foot, torquing my ankle. Stay up right, and passenger does't even know anything has happened till we stop so I can check my ankle. Glad I thrw on the combat boots instead of the short boots, they are a lot more supportive. I'm alright, bikes fine, just scarred the hell out of me. And the M is fine, just a bit of hair in the peg...

Glad you, your passenger and the bike are all OK but what about the coyote? I guess you didn't see the road runner he was chasing. I hope it doesn't mean he won't be appearing in any more movies. Those just crack me up.

Just got back from the doctor (woke up late for work forgot to set the alarm in all the excitement, needed an excuse) nothing broken. Passenger was awake, but it all happened so quick and she was huddled down behind me for warmth, it was like 45* F last night and shes a stick. Only reason I saw it at all was the driving lights are the wide fisheye ones that project sideways too. Looked at her in day light, looks like the crash bar took the brunt of the impact away from my ankle, and shift lever, there is some nasty looking stuff caked on it with hair stuck in it, camera is at the girls house, also a nice long streak of rubber on the cover over the coolant reservoir from my boot. I'm pretty sure the coyote didn't make it, looked like it bounced its head off steel crash bar, that at 50+ its pretty sure to at least knock it out, if not kill it outright... didn't hear a yelp or anything like i woulda expected...

It might have gotten knocked out instantly.

Glad your okay. I took a bird to the chest at 70 mph back in the first week of August. Held on with my right hand while trying to get the flapping bird off my chest with my left.
On top of all this, I had a bee of some kind fly up my left jacket sleeve on another day and sting my arm in two places. Then the freak of all freak things happened 3 weeks ago when a bee got caught under the chin strap on my helmet and stung me good. Neck was swelled up like an iguana for a week.

I had a similar experience last week, riding to work about 5:00 a.m. never saw him enter the road he was just all of a sudden in front of me. I was doing about 60mph. I didn't have time to react, and he was moving fast enough that I missed him by just inches. I did hear him yelp (just before I did LOL) and could even smell him. My front tire may have hit his tail but I never felt any impact. Really woke me up. I have had to dodge skunks, possums etc. but I can usually see their eyes but I guess he nver looked my direction.

I didn't see the road runner either! Glad I wasn't on an ACME bike!!

I hate bees. I had one in the helmet last week.. and I just moved near cornfields, got attacked by a swarm of some kinda gnat looking thing that shows up when they harvest, so I'm told, had one of those bite my eye lid a few weeks ago, that was hard to ride through...

And yeah Apertureguy, probably less than a foot away from complete disaster, glad I shifted in the lane instead of just trying to stop... Had a hard time sleeping last night, kept thinking about if i could of done better, and how close I came to wrecking, that bothers me most since I was 2 up. I do something stupid that gets me killed then its my fault, but if i do something, or make the wrong choice and get someone else hurt or killed....

Hey Trigger, Good to hear that you, your bike and your passenger are all well. Back in the 80s my uncle had a dog come from between two parked cars on the side of the street and some how it got caught up in the front wheel. Long story short He didn't fair near as well as you did.
Keep up the good work Bro.

Next time take Benedryl Liquid as soon as you can.

You can become allergic to bee stings, and people do not realize that. Some people becomes allergic after 2 stings, some could get several stings over the span of their life and become allergic. It has to do with how your body reacts to the histamines. Since your neck swelled up for a week I would say next time you are stung to document everything for your records and to discuss with your doctor next time you get a check up

Good job, I do most of my riding at night on long roads with lost of curves and no street lamps, knock on wood <knock knock> I have been lucky plenty of avoidance from birds getting in there last meal of the day on the cooling pavement; had a vulture that waited till the last second to take off swore he had a 5 foot wing span went forward instead of sideways like most, he had only lifted up to eye level when I passed him to my left hand side we both looked at each other like WTF are you doing there, then he banked left scared the you know what out of me. I could see his pupil we were so close
