On the M50 I needed a 22" to get rid of the buffeting. When the angle was set to match the forks, I would look through the shield about an inch from the top edge. When I tilted the shield back just a little, it was looking just a tad over the top.

Default Memphis Shades Big Shot

I put on a Big Shot today. I'm 6' 2" and had some buffeting up to about 50 mph, then it stabilized. The Big Shot comes to about my chin. I'm happy with it.

This varies some by shield design. One with a sharp, straight bottom is probably the worst in this respect. The one pictured above probably won't do it as bad due to the rounded, sloped bottom.

If the bottom of the shield slices off the air cleanly (or even worse, is angled back like the top), it tends to create a vacuum behind the lower part of the shield. This then sucks air back in about a foot or so behind the shield and it often blows UP in your face with considerable strength.

This can be good when it is HOT out but other times, not so much.

One must be careful mounting lowers so that they don't disrupt the flow of cooling air (more likely to be a problem with an air cooled engine).

I still like my National Street shield ... does the trick by keeping the wind force off my chest and it's what's important to me.

Plus you can't beat the price ($114)... even though the hardware was wonky still made it work.

I think lowers prevent air from flowing upward along the rider's front side which may be part of the buffeting equation.

I use a fairing with lowers as part of the design and it works very well at quelling the dreaded buffeting head shake and resulting double vision. Check out the pictures in an earlier message on this thread for some views of the installation.
