Default How long?

How many miles / km's would the M50 engine last before it will get defective?
I did over 20.000 km's in 1,5 year but hate the idea that the engine will be at an end in about 6 years
I love this bike enough to want a real long term relationship...

It is ALL in your hands!

Take good care of it and who knows how long it will last ........before it's first rebuild.

The key to that is: When it starts doing something drastically different.....new noises, smoky exhaust, bad mileage, etc. get it cared for before it "blows up". Even a complete upper and lower rebuild is a LOT cheaper than a new bike......if the rest of it is in good shape.

I've got friend who rides his to work almost year round. He's got 40K+ miles on it and it's a 2004.

you should get 100K before a rebuild. (If you take good care of her)

I Treat mine a little different.... I have 16K+ on my c50 in 7 months (in the middle of my third trip cross country this year). I have had ZERO problems, but I have performed all mainteance. 75% road miles.... screws up all the stats.... Just changed rear tire (today)... Front tire seems to be still growing tread.... Rear brakes are still "Like New" as I was told this morning. I changed my fronts about 3 months ago on bad advice ... They were like new when I changed them.. I do like this bike.... My only con..... feels a little light in high winds at highway speeds (shouldn't have been riding that day). It also feels light at speed it should not be going... Vaugn to Roswell NM.... straightest uninterupted ride... 93 miles of nothing in 68 minutes.... pump to pump... saw 2 vehicles... some motorcycle and a porsche... both passed me like I was a little ole lady.

I'll be posting more about what I have experience...... (lots).... In Bethany MO today.

bob

I was pretty much told that it would last as long as a car engine would if I took care of it. Water cooled, shaft drive...just like a car.

I put about 1100 miles a month on mine going back and forth to work and back. At that rate, I'll have about 40k on it by the time it's paid off.

I'd like to think I've put some serious milage on the M. 20,000 Miles in two years. Are I don't ride like some doctor on his Harley. I get into that throttle on the back roads, made a 1,200mi trip in two days, ran 95-105 across the state of NE. So far the only trouble I've had with the bike is a CLUTCH REPLACEMENT.. And that was no fault of my own, the stealership had failed to do the scheduled maintanence on the clutch adjustments. This bike seems like it will go strong up to at least around 75,000mi.

The bike will last as long as you take care of it. If you dont take care of it, it will not last. Keeping the rubber side down helps out alot as well

I've seen a lot of bikes with over 100k miles on them and still going strong. My buddy had a 78 kawasaki with 215k miles on it before it needed a rebuild. It was air cooled, which probably shortened its life a little...there's no telling how long these will last being fuel injected and water cooled. Manufacturing has gotten so much better for engines in the last 10 years that I would expect the rest of the bike will start failing before the engine if taken care of right.

Well, I keep it in excellent condition. Yeah, kinda pamper it.
So that must give me hope then
coz again, want to spend the rest of my life with this (almost) perfect bike.

Why 'almost'? Well i must admit, don't like the revving at highspeed

Replaced clutch at 18,300mi. The entire thing cost me right around 300 otd. parts labor, subway sandwich, etc... I felt that it should have lasted much longer than that, however I do get on the throttle and dig in the twisties when I can. Hope that answers it.

That's what I've heard as well. Hopefully it's true!
