Default ISO-Grip black hand remedy

I am getting black hands from the ISO grips, so I started looking into a way to fix it before I just got rid of the grips. I did some digging and the Goldwing people are saying to clean the rubber parts every few months with a rag and rubbing alcohol. I'm gonna give them a cleaning tomorrow before I ride to work and I'll let ya'll know in a week or so if it works or not...

Anybody else hear of that fixing it? Other suggestions if that doesn't work?

hmm interesting. Won't the alcohol dry out the rubber tho? might cause it to crack

I remember a thread here last year about the same problem. Apparently the grips aren't supposed to do that, and I think Kuryakyn replaced some of them for folks. I've had the same problem with mine. I suppose someone will say to simply wear gloves...hahaha.

I haven't figured out how to prevent the black hands yet either.

Having the same problem with mine. The place I bought them from is going to replace them them since they are not supposed to turn your hands black.

I have gloves on, so not a big issue for me. Fingerless during summer, insulated during Winter.

Default possible solution

My solution is two part, but has been affective for me:
1) soap
2) water
Rub soap all over hands, and then run under warm water until soap and black stuff is completely gone. Repeat as necessary.

send me a PM if you require further explanation

so... do you put the soap on the grips before or after running warm water?

You don't want to take a spill with no gloves. Riding without gloves will help the rubber breakdown faster due to the sweat and oils in your skin. Wear gloves and they will last longer.

Easier 1 step solution....rub hands with black shoe polish, before each ride, and Stop Blaming the grips

You were the kid in school that never read all the steps, weren't you! After steps one and two, the directions specifically state to put the soap on your hands and rub it in, but I guess I should have specified to rinse your "hands" off too instead of assuming people would follow along. You know what they say about assuming...

My gloves make my hands black, not my ISO's... I don't normally wear gloves unless it's cold, I've never gotten black hands from my ISO grips...
