Default Inner Thigh/Groin Pain

I've been noticing that the longer I've been riding, my groin/inner thigh on both sides starts to feel strained. It's almost like the wind is pushing against my legs and I'm resisting, trying to keep my legs near the bike, and this action causes my groin area to hurt after about 40 min of riding. I guess my question is, has anyone experienced this, and if so what did you do to rectify the problem? My bike has forwards on it, and switchblades. I'm starting to think that I may be a bit big for the bike. I'm 6'2'' pushing 290. Any info is appreciated.

My hip joint is sore, where the leg bone goes into the hip bone on my right side but I only feel it in the morning in bed when I roll over. It started shortly after I started riding my bike so, I attribute it to that. I had some back problems early on from manuvering the weight of the bike but those went away. I'm 6' 2" and about 240 pounds.

It could just be certain muscles that are building themselves up for you.

Excersize is the cure for sore muscles.

As for problem joints...this was never a big issue...we just smoked them anyway.

On long trips on the M50. I used to experience the same pain, plus my legs would shake like a hound trying to poop a peach pit. My guess was it was due to blood being cut off from the pressure of sitting wrongly in the saddle.

I've been dealing with this problem as well.

The problem for me was the angle with which the switch blades attach. If you remember, the stock foot pegs are bent up a little with the outer peg end higher than the inner part of the peg. This causes the knees to naturally move into the tank and makes it easy to keep them tucked there.

The switch blades (when I had the non-adjusting mounts) stuck straight out. This coupled with the John's kit make my knees want to stick into the wind. The constant effort of pulling my knees into the tank ended up causing problems like you described.

I got those splined mounts that have an angle adjustment. I adjusted the switch blades so that they had an angle similar to the stock pegs. It makes my knees want to tuck into the tank and I don't have to use any effort to keep them there. Problem mostly solved.

The rest is a little exercise, and especially stretching.

Do you have a link for the splined mounts? That could be a BIG help.

Thanks

I'm 5'11" and weigh 360 and my M50 is equipped with a Mustang seat (just the front section). I use a Slipstreamer Enterprise full fairing with lowers. The presence of the lowers helps with mnimizing the wind around the tank which forces the legs apart. Since installation I can ride longer distances in more comfort.

Just a thought.

Can you post pics of your bike? I'd like to see what it looks like. That sounds like a pretty sweet idea.

I think a lot of that is wind resistance. With the forward controls where they are at higher speeds the wind is not friendly. I have found that hooking my heel over the peg helped a lot. I would have to imagine that higher highway pegs would help a ton by straightening the leg/lifting it more from wind resistance. More mid mounted pegs the wind pushes the leg more into the peg, instead of forwards where we are pushing our legs into the peg to stay in place. At slower speeds it's totally comfortable, where we aren't pushing so back against the wind so much. That's my take....

i'd say it's pressure points /bloodflow getting cut off... i just stand on the pegs every once in a while...

I'm 5'11'' and found my inner thigh muscles started to hurt after riding for about 45 minutes to an hour on the highway and I was doing the same thing, tried to keep my knees close to the tank. I don't have forwards on my M50 yet. What made it easier on me when it happens to me is I sit spreadeagled on the bike for a while, thus relaxing those muscles. I plan on getting John's Kit forwards installed soon because I think if my legs are more forward it will reduce the amount of pressure my thighs will need to stay close to the tank. I.E. instead of sitting like I was in a chair, I'd be sitting like in a lounger. My suggestion since you're taller than me by about three inches, is it possible to get forwards that are more forward or install highway bars/pegs? I was thinking of doing this for myself but with a bad left knee once I'm moving I can't move my leg off the shifter and go forward.

With the forwards being so, well, forward its tough for me to stand up, but I have tried it, it just doesn't really allow me to get off the bike. I'm a big boy. Nativenyerintexas mentioned riding with his legs spread out from the tank to alleviate some pain, I've tried this method and it works for a short period, but it also makes you look like a dummy.

I've been thinking that this may be the best solution, but, I really don't like the look of highway bars, but it seems like that really the only option to extend my legs out a bit further, at least another 2-3 inches.

I agree. I felt kind of dopey doing that riding home from Richland about two months ago.

If you get the OEM engine guard, is there a set of highway pegs that will point forward a few inches and ten out for a peg? It might not work since it will probably get in the way of the front wheel when turning at lower speeds but it's worth checking out. That way at least you won't have those ugly highway bars. I'm not a big fan of how they look either, especially on the M50. On other bikes they look better but for some reason they just don't look right on this bike.

What about the Kuryakyn multi-angle foldable highway pegs?

I actually don't have forward controls or highway pegs. I am 5'10". But I saw a guy on a harley once take his legs and stretch them completely straight and rest the back of his heel on the front of the peg. So your legs are hanging down in between the peg and brake/shifter. Now it might not be the safest thing to do, but wow! how comfortable. I tend to do this on longer rides to give my groin a break. I try to do it where I have a good stretch of road to that I don't have to jump on the brake all of the sudden.
It is the most comfortable way I have found to ride and I don't see any need for floor boards/forward controls/highway pegs. Been on a couple of 5 hr rides and did this method to great success.
