Default Tachometer solutions

My 05 M50 doesn't have a tachometer. I don't really see any threads relating to this, has anyone found a nice tach for their bike?

Really??

I just did a search for "tach". It found 364 threads.

Got to be some good information in there somewhere..........unless you insist on seeing something that specifically mentions an '05 M50.

Drag Specialties offers one that will work with an adapter circuit (not included). It's about $80 and comes with handlebar mounts. Since it's for a Harley with one coil it needs an adapter to handle the two coils of the M50.

The parts are cheap, and are available at Radio Shack. You'll have to fabricate your own wiring, but that's not too extensive.

I'll try to post the circuit with this reply.

This is the better model than the one I use: TinyTach T226R-2C
I mounted it on the top of the front brake reservior using velcro and a 45 degree piece of wood.

Default tach solutions

thanks for the tach solutions! I have the 05 model and wasn't sure if newer models have a tach w/stock configuration. I guess the m50's didn't come with tachs. Correct me if I am wrong.

Default adaptor

Hey Ray,
I went to Radio Shack to get the diodes and resistors and ran into confusion.
They do not have the 1n4007 diodes and wanted to know the amps on the resistor.
Did you by the parts at Radio Shack or just relaying the adaptor PDF?
I have a cheap tach I bought off of Ebay and it is for the dual fire ignition. It works, but only shows 1/2 what it should be. I have found the adaptor on Ebay for the single fire ignition, but it is about as much as i paid for the tach.
Can you or anyone help with finding the parts that I need?
Tanx,
Din-K-dau

Default Tach adapter parts.

The resistors were 1/2 Watt, the diodes were rated with a Peak Inverse Voltage (PIV) rating of 1000 volts or something close as I remember.

A 1N4007 diode is similar, the high voltage rating is necessary because of an inductive kickback that can be a couple of hundred volts. Actually a 400 Volt PIV rating would probably work okay, but I went with 1000 Volts PIV rating.

Mine has been working just fine for over 7K miles now.
