Default horsepower increase

Hey all- just for my curiosity. My 2007 m50 has cobra streetrods, a kuryakan hypercharger with a stinger trap door and the pcIII to go with it. I am wondering if anyone knows what kind of an increase over the stock horsepower these mods actually equal out to. (I understand stock hp is 50 and max torque of 65 @5000.) THX

You are not going to like this answer but it IS true.

Most of those changes are really just bling.
Without the PCIII, you might actually lose HP.

The critical part, then, is the tuning of the PCIII. Done right, you can gain some; done wrong you may lose some.

The only way to know for sure is with a Dyno run. Without that, the next best thing is to find somebody who has similar mods and HAS done a dyno run and get the PCIII mapping from him.

Others will tell you about their great results, based on seat-of-the-pants feelings and you can believe that if you want to. If it makes you feel good, then it IS good......but it might not REALLY run any better.

I agree with EasyRider. If you do the mods and feel great about them, that's what counts.

If you really want increased performance, use dynos. Now dynos can have variability from day to day depending on temperature, humidity, etc. But that said, you will have a good idea of gains if you test the bike, do the mod and then re-dyno soon after, on a similar day.

To be honest, on an 800CC twin the mods probably wont make that big a difference, maybe 10 hp or so. When I had a Bandit you could make 10 - 20 hp just from a new slip on and re-jet. Some people would increase the bore and get up to 30 - 40hp more. My numbers are not exact but you get the idea of the potential there.

So if you have the money and would like a 5-10 extra horses or so, mod out! But if pure performance gains are what you are really after, maybe the M50 engine is the wrong canvas to start with. Although I would be curious to know if anyone has tried increasing bore or other more radical stuff to get more out of the engine. Personally I would love to beef up the suspension and brakes and drop an M109 engine or something bigger than the M50 engine into the M50 frame if it could take it. THAT would be a wild ride!

I changed to the PCIII, K&N Air Filter and Vance & Hines Cruiser pipes, after dynoing I picked up 8 hp and 7 torque. I did notice a difference, especially at higher speeds and RPMs.

Bike has been dynoed. Your putting out 52.64 HP and 48.96 FLBS torqe. Remember these are rear wheel numbers not crank, if they were crank numbers it would be 10-15% more. If you want I have the printout. It was Dynoed at RoyalDistributors last year during there performance night, they had a mobile dyno there and they did 3 runs and averaged the numbers.

Thx Booya- I guess I could've just come to you first! I was just wondering what kind of changes, other than cosmetic the parts made. How's the Bandit? Any long trips yet?

Original I had 49 hp and 48 torque after the change I moved up to 57 hp and 55 torque. And my miles per gallon dropped from 47-49 MPG to 39-44 MPG.

Anyone have the Dyno numbers after a debaffle? It seems to have a hair more power now than it did stock. It could just be wishful thinking on my part though.
