Default Blacked out exhaust, and badges removed.

1. Well today was the first of my two days off from work and I needed something to do. I got up this morning and tested the header paint that I bought over the weekend. It was too chalky looking, so off to the parts store I go.

2. I picked up some BBQ grill paint and sandable primer, and some 800 grit sandpaper.

3. Got home and removed the exhaust and get to prep of the exhaust. I used 180 grit drywall sandpaper to ruff the chome, then washed it with degreasing soap and H2O. After I had dried the exhaust, I resanded it, and taped off the parts that wouldn't be painted.

4. Time to prime. Well two coats of the primer with some very light sanding with the 800 grit between coats were all that was needed.

5. Painting time. Take the BBQ grill paint that I picked up and commence painting the exhaust. I put three coats on the exhaust.

6. While the primer and paint were drying I removed the M50, Suzuki, and Warning stickers from the beast. I use dental floss and our wonderful sun to remove the badges. I used Goo Gone to remove the remaining goo, and FYI to all that haven't removed the Warning label it's a PITA. I waxed and cleaned up the rest of the bike during the drying time.

I would not have thought to do it that way, but it really looks eye catching. I like. 10pts. for originality! Now everybody with stock pipes can steal your idea!!!

I think you should black out your air box as well. Then your chrome pipe ends will really jump off the bike.

Default Looks awesome!

That looks great! Quick Question, is there any reason other than aesthetics that you didnt paint the whole pipe and muffler? I really like the look, but I am thinking of blacking the whole thing out. What is the temperature rating on that paint? Do you think it will bubble out and fade with heat? Thanks!

hmmm....I can't say I like the last half left chrome. It looks to me like you got tired of it and gave up part way through. I love the exhaust when it's all black....it's your bike though. I'll give you points on originality, I haven't seen one like that yet.

Georgiaroller, Hey thanks I was actually thinking of doing the air box too, but I also like the idea of taking the air box completely off.

OC, the reason for only painting half was purely aesthetic. I have been playing around MS paint and that was the look that I liked best.
Badbaker, thanks for the feedback. I knew everyone wouldn't care for it, but all criticisms are appreciated.

OC, sorry i didn't finish answering you. The paint is rated for 1200 degrees, so I don't think it will bubble or fade. But if it does the paint was only 5 bucks, so I won't feel bad about repainting.

i might just black out all except about 2-4inches at tip so it's not the same. the chrome ends really stand out in a good way i think. you going to repaint the glossy black plastic parts on the bike with the matte too?

it would be like the hardkrome black pipes. i think they give you tips to choose from and they are chrome. i do however love the way you left it. picked up heat wrap tape today, which i decided against. was going to black everything but the end cannons. even the tapered part you left. i think your idea looks better tho. looks more flowing instead of just a huge tube at the end. still undecided. i did rush off to home depot and pick up the grill paint to get started tomorrow lol.

I like, but have a question: Will the heat bother the primer? I was thinking of doing this, but leaving out the primer step.

It shouldn't bother it, but it wouldn't bother the process if you left it out as long as you were worried about possibly seeing scratch marks from the sanding. I think 3 or 4 coats of the paint would solve that problem though. Guess it's up to you.

I actually got to here the straight shots the other day for the first time. I was at the Zuki dealer getting oil and filter, and there was a guy there on a C50 with a set. They sound awesome. I think they would looks sweet blacked out.
