Default Kuryakyn ISO grip problem

Has anybody had a problem with the throttle grip being too tight on the handle bar right at the last quarter inch or so? The grip spins freely on 99% of the bar, but of course I have to push it on slightly the last 1/4" so that it will fit in the switch housing. Then its too tight and the throttle return cable isn't strong enough and it sticks. Should I just drill it out a tiny bit? Ideas?

no. i installed my grips so they are hanging off the bars about 1.5 inches for a wider bar feel. being off the bar slightly might help

I know this sounds dumb, but did you pull the spacer out of it? They store the spacer for the left hand grip in the throttle side grip during shipping, I had the same problem, dropped the grip and the spacer popped out, then it went on smooth..

Yeah, it was out of there. I ended up drilling it out slightly with a 1" bit and that seemed to do the trick. I think there was something in there from the manufacturing process that was binding it up a touch. Works fine now.

I have a problem with mine, they are turning my hands black every time I ride.

I went back to the place I purchased them and they are going to replace them for me.

I'll bet you'll find the same issues with the new ones. Everybody i know that runs the ISO's have that problem.

I get that from time to time too. It's not always, the longer my ride, the more black I get. My dad was having the same issue with his.

I had the problem as Geoff mentioned. I ended up pulling my ISO's off and selling them. I have gel's now.

The rubber on my switch blades is doing the same thing. It is getting dry and cracked and will rub black off on your hands.

I will be steering clear of Kuryakyn products using that rubber in the future.

Guess I just got lucky, maybe i have natural oils that keep the rubber fresh...i don't know, won't complain though, when these wear our, I'll have an excuse to get new bars too.

Two things. First, I also had a problem putting my throttle side on. It would go on easily for the first 2/3rds of the way they stop. It would bind and the harder I pressed the more the rubber towards the flange end would start to pull out of the chrome housing. Now I'm a fairly handy, creative and imaginative guy. I can usually find at least 3 or 4 ways to accomplish something and go with the easiest, fastest or cheapest. But with the grips, nothing real simple or easy seemed to work. What finally did work was i used the trusty dremmel and rounded of the corners of the throttle sleeve grip towards the end of the bar. This little mod along with some good ol' manhandling did the trick.

Second, I've never had the black hands problem. I do ride with gloves 75% of the time. I wonder if the grips that sit on a shelf for a good while before purchase and install have more curing time for the rubber coating. I was just reading an article about how coated rubbers reduce the deterioration of parts. Maybe it has something to do with this.

i had this prob too

there was a lil hump on the bottom side of the handlebars (throttle side)

took my hammer to it and gave it a few good wacks to smoothe it out. then lubed up the whole thing with some vasoline. it works great now and snaps back to idle.
