Default neck covers

Hey all- I notice that my neck covers are slightly a different tone than the rest of my bike- they almost seem faded?? and there are some scuffs where the key fits in. Any suggestions on how to bring them back to par with the rest of the paint? The paint is stock black (with blue flecks.)
THX

New paint and remove the fob from your key. You could try giving it a cut polish but it seems like a waste of time and effort. It's a pretty exposed peice and get's a fair amount of grime

Purple, it sounds like your neck covers have been painted (stock black with blue flakes-btw, I've never seen that). If I'm wrong and they haven't been painted to match the bike there's no need to read on. If so... I found that when I repainted the bike, including the neck covers to match, there is a slight difference in tone of the neck covers than the rest of the painted body parts. I've repainted the neck covers twice to try to fix this. I think lighting has a little something to do with it. The neck covers are pretty much vertical pieces whereas the rest of the painted body pieces are either round (tank), rounded (side covers), or has horizontal or near horizontal pieces along with a vertical (fenders) element that help it to blend. The sides of the rear fenders also have the chrome fender supports which help to brighten the color a little whereas the neck covers have a lot of stuff to cause a mild shadowing effect.

I know this may all sound crazy but I'm just telling you that after painting the neck covers twice I've come to accept that they will look like a slightly different shade than the tank and front fender, especially indoors or in the shade.

It's kind of like when you paint a room. Depending on the lighting, usually one or two walls looks a little darker than the other walls.

It's Just my observation. I think the higher the gloss on the paint the less this is noticeable. The flatter the paint the more it absorbs light and appears to have a slightly different tone.

Thx guys- It is a stock paint job, my s50 was the same and my dad's c90 as well- they are black but there is a blue fleck in the light. Anyways, maybe it is just lighting etc and maybe Im just being picky- I appreciate the input.

Here's an old post on the Paint Codes. http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/fo...ght=paint+code

You can always put on chrome covers or CF them.

I was tired of all the scratches in mine, so I painted it flat black. I've also painted so much other stuff flat black, it made sense. If you aren't blacking out your bike, then I would say try a cleaner polish/wax, try Meguire's Scratch-X and then wax, or go with the Carbon Fiber. I was looking at CF before I painted mine, but shipping to and from Canada was more than I wanted to spend.
