Default replacement chain

Just thinking about future maintenance, my bike has 8k miles on it. I don't know how long chains usually last, but I am curious what the best replacement would be, and how long till I should get a new chain.

I keep seeing stuff on xring vs o ring chains... what are the differences?

There's a procedure spelled out in your manual regarding chain wear. You either have an indicator on the swingarm or you measure some number of links for "stretch". In my experience, chains show signs of impending failure before that point with excessive noise or by climbing the sprocket.

Use the grade of chain that's listed in your manual's specifications section. Whether you go with O- or X-ring is up to your pocketbook. You should change both sprockets at that time, though a rear sprocket may last through two chains if budget is an issue.

most of the riders from the MIG forum have gotten about 20k -30k out of a chain and sprockets. All depends on how well you keep the chain tensioned and lubed (every 600mi lube)

new word of advise to all marauder owners checking this. If you haven't already get the 16t front sprocket. Makes a WORLD of diff on the hiway. I just installed mine today put on 50miles and wow what was 50 (by engine vibration and noise) is now 75mph. and still lots of low end for get up and go.

Thanks I appreciate it!

Have you noticed an issue with your low end though?

cool I would love that! I bet you get better mileage from teh switch, unless the low-end loss eats it up... maybe better highway, lower city?
