I used to get around 50 mpg but since the de-baffel/hypercharger/PCIII I'm down to around 42

I too average about 52-55 mpg on mixed city and highway riding. Still on stock/baffled pipes. I like 'em. Maybe I'll try the "Gas fill off of the side stand trick and squeeze another 5 mpg.

heh... it doesn't increase your mpg, it only increases your range..

to calculate your mpg you need 2 things.
know how much fuel you used
know the distance.

putting more fuel doesn't do anything... all you need is 1 gallon and ride.

when it dies, however many miles you did gives you your mpg

What is the "gas fill off the side stand trick". I read that sentence over and over and can't make sense of it.

instead of filling up when it's on it's side stand, you stand the bike straight up...

it allows for a bit more fuel.

Anyone drilled holes in their pipe get worse mileage?
I drilled 6 3/4" holes in both pipes and immediately smelled more gas standing around the bike at idle. The bike sounds great now, but gets worse gas mileage definitely. Went from ~48-50mpg to like ~45mpg. I know that isn't much, but one of the reasons I like to take the bike most times is also b/c of the high gas prices. Also a reason to get the misses on the back to ride with instead of taking a car.
Any suggestions on how to fix it? Way to adjust the gas flow to make it better?
Would it get better if I went ahead and debaffled? Or make it worse?

I wonder if you are gettin on it a bit more now that you have better sound....Revving up a bit at the stops....winding out a bit more on take off....

3mpg could easily be that.

Same thing happened when I got flowmasters for my truck....

i normally put 3.3 to 3.5 in the tank because thats where the light comes on i guess. i reset my trip odo when i fill up and i always get a minimum of 160 miles. best i ever got was 187 (i figure 62 miles at best and 53.5 avg) im 6'0 150lbs.

When I drilled my pipes I noticed 4 things. The pipes sounded horrible, like I could hear the air coming out of them, especially when I reved it and let off real quick. The second thing I noticed was my power went to %%%%. Next the smell of fumes, and finally the poor gas mileage. I removed the 1st plate and the baffles and it got a lot better. I removed the mickey and the 3rd plate and its perfect. You gotta get all that junk out of those pipes and let them breath. Fully de-baffled stock pipes have some volume to them but not as loud as the majority of aftermarket pipes I've seen.

Rocky, so i hear you on the air sound and the smell and the gas mpg and the loss of power. But I actually like the sound now. But my question for you is does the power go back up and the mpg go back up and the gas smell go away when you fully debaffle? And I know that the sound will get louder and I don't know if I want that, but if the mpg goes up and the power gets better again I would think about it.
As for the mpg being b/c of more rev, I can see that first when I did it, but I just took a trip and concentrated on not revving and accellerating quickly, and the mpg was the same.

I felt a slight power increase with the full de-baffle, but I'm not ruling out wishful thinking. To me I really think going from drilled to full de-baffle made it run like stock pipes, just louder and possibly with more umf. the main difference between the d-baffle and straight pipes is the volume goes up a bit and that gassy sound goes away. I really like the sound of the straights. Its enough to make a bit of a ruckus, but not too much so that your neighbors hate you. My neighbor has told me that when i pull up he can hear me but, the noise isn't intrusive and often he doesn't even notice it if the TV or music is going in his house. To me, that's the perfect volume for a guy in the suburbs.

I see usually between 42-50 depending on how I'm getting on the throttle. It's amazing how pulling the fuel out via the PCIII has changed my mileage. Taking out all the rich spots has been a 2-5 mpg increase.

For reference, the fully gutted stock pipes and the V&H Straight Shots with factory baffles have about the same volume. The V&H sound a little deeper though.

I think you're doing your calculation wrong. Filling up with the bike upright just adds more gas to the tank, it doesn't affect how efficiently your engine burns that gas.

That said, filling the tank all the way up should give you more range between fillups.

Well put some gas in the tank yesterday. The math added up to 34.11 miles per gallon. That was for 3.685 gallons at 125.7 miles. The flashing light comes right about 110 miles and I took it for two more trips to work before filling it up. Not exactly as good as I was hoping for, but probably understandable since I drive 2.5 miles each way with a few stoplights along the way.
