Default Noobie question

So I am trying to figure out the best way to tie a full face helmet to the back seat. I have had a few successes although they are not real stable. So far, tying it to a backpack has been the best option. Ideas for the best way?

I am not going to give you any recommendations since years ago I saw my spare helmet bouncing down the road behind me

There are bunjee nets made for that specific purpose (and similar).

The helmet rests against the tire when you lock it there. Needless to say that would create a bad situation while riding.

Yeah, I figured the helmet lock would be BAD news. I'll try finding one of those helmet bungee nets. Thanks!

On the C50 I have an OEM sissy bar and i just run the chin strap through one side (can fit 2 helmets) and have never had any issues.

+1 on the bungie cord nets. I've got two of them and they're the best all-purpose motorcycle accessory you can have.

I was using one when I lost my helmet, that is why I will not recommend it. I have seen plenty of people using them, but after watching my $300+ helmet bounce down the road, I will not use one for a helmet.

I strapped it under the pass seat and put the strap through the loops to tighten it down. it moves and will probably fall off soon - get a sissy bar and a bag.

Although it is possible to ride with the helmet hooked to the side mounted helmet lock (I've done it), Mario is right and you never should. Thankfully I only ended up with a scuff mark on the side of the helmet and nothing more serious. If I'm not moving and I don't think the helmet will "walk away" I just put it on the sissy bar and hook the chin strap underneath tightly. I would probably also ride that way too. I've seen the netting work for people also. If you want a different helmet lock for when your bike is parked I bought one off of cruisercustomzing that attaches to your handlebars. If someone really wanted my helmet they could most likely break the lock, but they'd really have to put some effort into it.

you can try by wearing the helmet when you ride and then using the helmet lock when you park.

If the helmet is on your head, where it should be, you will not have to worry about attaching it to the bike. Why carry it with you if you are not going to wear it? If you are a newbie it is even more reason to wear the helmet.

Just my 2 cents

Oh come on guys, this is not rocket science.
Those who often, but not always, ride with a passenger, often need a place to carry the PASSENGER'S helmet.

Agree with this, but assuming you're not a newbie, the way I've carried a helmet is to put it on the sissy bar so the back pad of the sissy bar is inside the helmet (it's a full-face helmet), then I just close the chin strap on the helmet between the two uprights on the sissy bar. I took a 200 mile trip with my helmet like that and it never once came close to even thinking about coming loose.

Really, if you want to carry a helmet around on your bike, a sissy bar is your best option. Either attach the helmet to the sissy bar, or get a sissy bar bag that will fit your helmet.

I'm with Dave, I just stick my spare helmet on the sissybar and it rides like a champ. I don't fasten it down, just stick it on there and it fits on there pretty snug.

Don't see how you can tote a spare without a sissy bar.

I have a sissy bar and i've used it to carry my other helmet like that...

i also have a few nets... i did 8000km+ and not once did it ever think about coming loose.

i've put the net on top of my bags and i've tied it with the net to the rack on the back...

i've also dumped it into a luggage bag that was big enough...

while using a net, you just need to make sure of two things... make it REAL tight and make sure you don't screw up your visor on the netting...

mine didn't move when i put it like this

Which is the exact reason I was strapping down a helmet. Before the fiance and I lived together everything was stored at my place, so when I used to go pick her up I'd have to bring her helmet along. I never ever ride without one. The possible enjoyment doesn't quite outway the whole brains splattered on road things for me.
