Wondering how the majority of you come to a stop? I was taught years ago to use your brakes to stop rather than downshifting. I was told that the price of brakes vs clutch/transmission repair made it the best way to do things. I downshift thru the gears as I come to my stop but do so with the clutch disengaged and don't start lowering gears until down to about 30 mph or so. This does allow me the ability to be able to power up in the gear I need if I do encounter an unexpected situation. Seems this eliminates a lot of unnecessary wear on the clutch/transmission and rear drive. My last bike, chain driven, didn't require any adjustment to the chain in over 5000 miles and I think a lot of that is because of using this method. The less shock placed on the drivetrain the better, I would think. Any opinions on this?
