Default 7500 mile M50 service

Hiya - guess I've been riding and working a lot more than posting, though sometimes I post from 'work' when I get can get away with it, heh heh.

I've ridden for about a year now, I'm still loving this bike - though my eye does wander to the new Bandit 1250S at times.

So I've got an appointment with th' stealer for 7,500 mile service on the '07 m50..

Am I a pigeon to pay them the asked for approximately $450 for this?

I'm not that great of a mechanic, though once without any help I was able to install a hurst shifter into my '89 Mustand 5.0 (the rare notchback, NOT hatchback!). I don't have the tools anymore to do this kind of thing.

Is there anything in the recommended 7,500 service for this bike that I could tell the dealer not to bother with, save some dough? Or since I'm leaving it in their hands should I fork over the $450 and figure the bike will be A OK for a while? Thanks for insights on this!

That does seem a little high.
There are 2 "mandatory" replacement items: oil & spark plugs. Lots of things get inspected, but that still does seem a little high. Call another area stealer and ask what they charge.

The valves need adjustment, which takes a lot of time. All fluids need changing too, but that's fairly simple.

After this check valve clearances will probably hold for quite a while based on my experience with an M50 over 20k Miles. I adjusted ALL valves at 600 miles, one at 7500 and checked them at 15K -- all were okay.

Ask the dealership to tighten ALL the coolant hose clamps as most will take a turn or so before being tight. Skip this and you MIGHT have a coolant down the road somewhere.

Just my two bits worth on the subject.

Ray Nielsen, in Minneapolis and going for a ride today!

I got a written quote from my dealer a few weeks ago for my 7500 mile service at $150 and that includes the valve adjustment. I was surprised because my 600 mile service was something like $260 from the same dealer.
