Default How To Remove Front Fender?

Hey, anybody who's painted their bike, must have removed their front fender. Is it necessary to remove the wheel? Looking at it, doesn't look like the fender will clear the forks if I try to keep the wheel on.

No, you don't have to remove the wheel. The plastic fender flexes enough to take it out. However, two edges of the fender will still rub a little when removing it. After loosening the fender, play with it a little and you'll see the two edges that will rub when you slide it out. Place some blue painter's tape on these edges so paint won't get scratched when sliding the fender out.

DJ, thanks so much. I'm on my way to blacking the bike out, started with the side covers, flat black paint with clear coat and wax, that went so well, I'm on to the fenders and tank next. Love your bike, btw. Great job.

For me, the side panels and the front fender went very easy. The tank and rear fender required wet sanding between coats. There could be many factors why I had to wet sand these two parts. You may not need to. But if the first coat of paint on the tank and rear fender is not as smooth as the side panels, don't apply another coat until you've wet sanded and cleaned the parts after the first coat. More paint will not make it better.

Good advice. I'm also going to take a lot more care in wiping clean between sanding and extra coats of paint or clear. Truth is, I'm not hung up on it being absolutely perfect, and there are definite flaws in the side covers I painted, but once they were on the bike they looked great, and you'd have to use a magnifying glass to find them.
