Default New Guy...Great Forum...M50 side mounted plate??

Hey Hey,

I just bought an 08 M50 about a month ago and found this forum a week or so ago. Great stuff guys, keep up the excellent work.

I was just wondering if anybody has a side mounted plate and if so, where can I find one. A pic would be super. Not even sure if it is possible??

Run a search for anything you have any questions. Odds are, especially on this one, it has been asked and answered many times.

I think the majority are coming from Ebay. I plan on ordering one in the near future and will be getting from there as well.

Here is one

Here is a curved one that DJ has. It might require some drilling IIRC.

Check the picture threads.

I know they are popular, could someone explain the attraction?

I think that people who put on side plates generally do so because they remove the assembly holding the stock turn signals and license plate. It just helps to clean up the butt of the bike.

Minnesota just passed a law, starting August 1st, the requires the license plate to be displayed horizontally, that is right side up. The local news report mentioned it along with other laws going into effect August 1st.

Don't know if you'd get a ticket with an out of state plate turned sideways, but a MN plate would probably result in a citation.

If you really want to be a smartass, mount the license plate on top of the fender so the numbers face the sky. Bonus points if you can talk a cop out of giving you a ticket.

Guaranteed at least two tickets if you pull that stunt!!! But would be funny.....for about 10 seconds while he writes your other "being a smartass to a cop" ticket. Okay so who in MN has the marbles to do it?

I bought mine from Meancycles.com, very simple curved black frame that mounts using the bolt next to your axle on the left side of the bike. Pricey at $68, for what it is, but there's only a few out there that are sized right without modifications.

OK, now that makes sense. I guess I had just been thinking in terms of the plate and couldn't think why I would want it on the side of the bike. But if you are talking removing that entire assembly then yeah I get it.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Snafu, do you or Mavman know if that link corresponds to this side mount frame? If so, that seems like a pretty simple installation. Is tapping into the tail light's power line difficult? I know next to nothing about how that would work.

Go to meancycles.com and you can find side mount plates that install with one bolt. The bolt is sold seperate.
