I was debating protective gear, until my 14 y/o son had a bicycle accident that landed him in the burn center for two nights to treat road rash and $40,000, I had great insurance, I try to wear what I have (Tourmaster Flex 2, tour master pants, leater boots, fullface helmet and gloves.) all of the time but like everyone there are times saftety gets rationalized away especially in hot weather.

I have an Icon jacket w/ armor that I wear for highway riding in the summer along with a full face for year round highway riding. I typically ride around in town going to and from work, so I don't always wear the gear. I just wear jeans (no protective undies)and a shirt, and a half shell. I also have a leather jacket that will be hanging in the closet until the temp drops about 30 degrees.
Almost forgot, I wear gloves all the time, since rocks and things of that nature like to aim at my hands.

I wear jacket, boots, gloves, full face helmet. Then either jeans or pants with chaps. I have some office-worthy kevlar lined pants on order. Even with the chaps or kevlar, if I really skipped down the road, I would be in bad shape. I keep meaning to get full leathers, at least for cool and cold weather, but my weight keeps going up and down. I'm working on lowering it now. Maybe once I reach my ideal weight, I'll get a full set of leathers to keep me motivated to keep the weight off!

Default Woman's riding gear?

Anyone have a stubborn woman that doesn't want to wear riding gear? I visited RidetoDie.com and it convinced me that gear is a necessity. She doesn't want to look at the gorry pics but doesn't want to wear gear either. She isn't convinced that the discomfort is NOT worth it and if we go down that it won't protect enough anyway. I have Tourmaster Intake 2 jacket/pants/ Cortech gloves / 3/4 helmet, but she would ride in flip flops/shorts/and spagetti strap shirt if I let her.

Any suggestions?

My girl is always in jeans, boots, helmet, glasses and jacket. She has a Joe Rocket jacket with the padding and actually really likes it. I told her from the first time she got on the bike that she has to be in gear, or she's following me in her car. If we're just running up the street for dinner then we'll go without the jacket, but any further and she's got it on.

Yeah, my daughter. She wants to ride but doesn't want to wear even the minimal amount of protection. It's a bummer that she wants to ride and I won't let her. I could not live with us going down and her getting chewed up even though it would have been her choice. She turns 18 next week. I bought her a helmet that sits here unsused.....

Tell her to run down the street as fast as she can with her flip flops, shorts and spaghetti strap shirt and then slide face first, then while she's down there tell her to pick up her head and drop it a few times on the concrete. If she gets up and says "That didn't hurt at all." Then you can let her ride like that.

we actually are married!! Which doesn't make it any easier.
Good suggestions though!!
She came from the boonies of Ohio on a farm riding without even a helmet for the first 21 years of her life and thinks since it hasn't happened yet that it will never will!

Next time your walking around the house push her down the stairs, then tell her falling off a bike is 100 times worse.

I wear a full face Arai helmet, a pair of gloves (Icon or Olympia depending on weather) Shift & Tourmaster boots (again, D.O.W) and a Fieldsheer mesh jacket. Only thing I'm missing is protective pants, but the kind I do want are way too expensive

More expensive then your legs? Friend of mine went down on his R6 last Sunday doing about 80kph, he had all his gear on except for his riding pants, he decided to were jeans because it was hot out. Scraped his legs up pretty bad, but the rest of him was just sore. He got lucky, slide into a sandy corner, bike went into the guard rail.
