Default Seat - Bang for Buck... THINK!

Ok. Keep in mind, this post is not for the greatest seat out there, but rather, the best seat for the money.

Think of it as Corvette in a sea of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, etc.

If you could, list as such.

Please be honest. If you spent $300 on a seat, and it sucks, hook a brotha up and let us know so that our ass may not hurt!

Peace,
G

Mustang all the way. Cheaper and softer than a Corbin, and made of closed-cell foam instead of gel so it actually gives you padding instead of just distributing pressure. I ride the Vintage Touring, paid around $500.

I personally still like my airhawk after at least 5000 miles. Airhawk medium cruiser seat...around $150.
I have done 250 mi without pain...and 50 mi used to bring pain.

Greatest thing about it is the variety of positions you can put it in...
You can move it forward and change up the ride.
You can move backwards and change up the ride.
You can take it off and really change up the ride.
You can turn it 180 degrees and change up the ride.
You can add / remove air and change up the ride.

the variety of positions is a great aspect of this and eliminates the same old pressure spots all the time. It may not look so hot if you leave it on the bike...but if you are really looking for comfort this cannot be beat IMHO. I stick mine in a saddlebag when I park it and then you just see the stock seat.

It is cheap enough that if you end up hating it, you can still go for one of the showy big name seats and didnt waste too much money....and one of your buddies will want the airhawk from you....

Annie

I think you need to add to your list a single (with or without a pilion) or a duo (2 Up) seat.

The Mrs and i ride allot together so for us the Saddelman Explorer Gel Seat was the best option, it looks very nice, has a large surface area for the passenger's butt and it's under $300 on ebay.

My friend has the Mustang seat and it is very comfortable but ugly as sin...lol

I guess you have to find YOUR OWN balance between looks and comfort that will match YOUR PERSONALITY

I hope this helps

If the seat pan could be completely smoothed out, then the best for the money would probably be the "Double Decker" mod from Mean City Cycles.

Really? If it were not for the seat pan I'd have been really happy.

I bought the Mustang seat from Oneida Suzuki for $414.68 which included the shipping to me. I got the plain and not the studded. The link is MUSTANG 2 PIECE SEATS M50 2005-08 BOULEVARD :: Seats :: Boulevard M50 :: Cruisers :: Oneida Suzuki Inc
I ordered it on the 10th, and put it on the bike yesterday when it came.
I rode it 135 miles today and it was head and shoulders above the stock unit. My only complaints is that it pushes you ahead about 2 inches and I am tall, so I will be looking for forward controls to stretch my legs out, and it put my arms in a new position which seemed to fatigue them sooner.
Butt felt great though as it cradled it and made it a lot easier to go over the speed bumps here on the Pennsylvania highways. Some of those 65 mph. bumps on the stock seat almost threw me off.

Got the Corbin Dual Tour. At first blush, it looks like it won't work with my OEM sissy bar / luggage rack. But it was a quick check 10 minute s before dinner, so maybe it will work. I'll know better this weekend (friggin' rain... )

What makes you think it won't work? I have the Corbin too and a backrest (no luggage rack) and had no problem working around the seat.

Do you have the OEM backrest, or the Corbin one?

I removed the old seat (loosening the sissybar/backrest in the process). When I tried to put the new seat on, the back of the seat hits the mounting irons for the back rest.

It could be that I need to tweak the tongue in the front of the seat just a bit to get it move toward the tank -- If I can gain an inch or so I'm golden.

I'd rather not have to take the back rest mounts all the way off, put the seat on then re-mount them. Makes taking the battery out a real pain.

Made my own with hi-density foam from JoAnn's. I can ride about ....oh....... an hour till my cheeks don't function anymore.

That's what my wife sa- oh, nevermind.

Do many people modify the aftermarket seats or just accept the way they feel because they cost so much?

I'll tell you what...since getting my Mustang seat, I don't think I could possibly make it any more comfortable.

I got the seat on today. I had to remove my luggage rack, but kept the back rest. The back of the seat is pressed tight against the mount frame for the back rest. For those who are curious, the C50 has mounting brackets that fasten to the frame/fender. They taper in towards the seat about 3/4 of an inch. The back rest fits *inside* the mounting brackets, and the luggage rack fits inside that (yes, the back rest is required to have the luggage rack).

The curve of the back end of Corbin Dual Tour seat is such that when both the luggage rack & the back rest are mounted they interfere with the back of the seat fitting properly. I removed the luggage rack, and reversed the bolts (so the acorn nuts are on on the outside), used some washers to make up the space of the missing luggage rack, and was able to get it all together. I wish Corbin had just made the friggin' seat on inch shorter.

I dislike the tightness of the fit, but I guess it will be alright. The little rubber feet on the under side of the back end of the seat don't contact the fender, but I'll wait and see if it "settles in" after a few hours of riding.

Batteries are charging in the camera; I'll post pix when I can.

Default Saddleman

I have had the Saddleman explorer for a couple of months now. It lowers my a$$ a couple of inches and raises my wife's an inch. We've been on a few longish rides now and after riding all day, with stops (lunch, smoke), your butt will still get fatigued although NOTHING like the stock crap. You don't mind getting back on after a while. The difference in height is great for the passenger as they will actually get a view other than the back of your helmet.
Worth the $$ compared to the others.
