Default Is Marauder picky on Oil?

I've just bought a 03 Marauder. Ready to change oil on it.
Manual recommend 10w40. Does synthetic or not matter? Brand specific?

It only really matters the 1st 2,000miles or until the motor get fully broken in. Other than that it shouldn't make a difference. I belive that if a motor has been run with either conventional or syn for a long time you should prolly keep running that in there. But quite a few guy have had a sucessful swaps.

If you know what was in it before, stay with that.
If you don't know, any good quality dino or syn 10W40 will be just fine.
No additives and avoid "energy conserving" types.

Ive used Mobil1, amsoil, etc. and have never noticed any difference in the sound or feel of the bike.
Definately dont use "energy conserving" oils. If your not sure then use motorcycle specific oil which definately wont be energy conserving. One of the weak areas of the rauder is they are known for some clutch slippage, and the additives used in the above mentioned oils will add to the problem.
Enjoy your new purchase, there a fun little bike.
Dean

I forgot to add the part about only using only oils designed for motorcycles. The 'rauder has a very weak point of the clutch with even a stage 2 upgrade it can trash the clutch with out and upgrade. Other than that the bike is very solid and very strong runner. My last bike i used a standard SYN oil and with in 3k miles the clutch was slipping. So make sure you get motorcycle oil and you should be good to go. Love your little beast as it will make ya very happy when you can keep up if not blow the bars off the bigger 1500cc bikes.

I have found my bikes and cars, truck...ect...love Rotella 5w-40 SYN.
I have been using it in everything for the last 5-6 years even the riding lawn mower, It can be found in Blue gallon jugs at walmart, for 16-17 dollars a Gal., and if you catch it on sale as little as around 14. a gal., and that cheap for SYN. it is API rated SL, which is more they ask for, on there API requirements, They ask for SF/SG which is Obsolete SF was for Gas engines 1988 and older, SG was 93 and older, or SH/SJ, and again SH is Obsolete, was for 96 and older, and SJ, is still current for 01 and older...lol
Bottom line API SL is the most current rating for gas engines along with API SM, This is the one you do not want, It is the Energy Conserving oil.
All these ratings mean, is If an owner’s manual calls for an API SF
or SJ oil, an API SL oil will provide full protection, But what you dont want to do, is go back wards, If an owner’s manual calls for an API SL
oil, an API SG oil Will NOT provide full protection.
