tried to install 3 inch lowering kit, but have falled for tonight. plus pens are about to win game 4 of the cup finals.

anyone have any suggestions on how to get the bottom bolt out on the suspesion to install a lowering kit. there is no room to work in there the bolt is right inline with the frame rail. i'm stumped. please help

Get the spacer that the bolt goes thru and slide it partially out of the side that the nut was on. This should give you enough room to take the bolt out. I supported the bike with a M/C jack under the frame and a regular jack under the tire to make this much easier.

.........Yep! If you don't do that then the cursing & tool tossing will ensue. Learned that little tip the hard way.

Lowered my handlebars slightly - not sure if it will make a difference in ride comfort yet.

First ride since I installed my DJ Drive. Cruising at 70 on the freeway at <4000 rpm - great.
I think I'm really going to like this mod.

Do you know what the RPM was before the DJ drive?

Yes, about 4500@70. I think the DJ mod reduces rpm in a given gear by about 14%. I've attached the chart of stock gearing.

Everybody that has done this Mod. seems to swear by it. Did you notice any performance gains/losses with this Mod.? Or is it just basically trying to get a lower rpm at Hwy. speeds?

Hard to say without putting a stopwatch on an acceleration run, but seat of the pants tells me that you lose a little in first gear. It's [i]almost[i] (but not quite) like starting in second gear. You have to feather the clutch a little if you are heavy or are riding two up. Since the gearing is taller it must be that the bike will be slightly slower but the advantage of easier (less rpm and vibration) high speed cruise makes up for it in my opinion. I'm thinking that fuel mileage will be slightly better as well.
Since I have some performance enhancements (GiPro w/ATRE and Bully FP) I believe that even with the DJ mod, the bike is at least as quick as a stocker.

That's what I was thinking may be the case. Thanks for the info! I guess if you running alot of long interstate runs this would be the way to go. Kind of like giving the M a 6th gear or overdrive gear.

Exactly, I find that I'm one gear lower than I would normally be at the same speed. I would usually be in 5th gear anytime over 40 mph but now 4th is great in that 40-55 range.

I think the outline makes a huge difference. I like it. Even a silver outline would look good as well to match the chrome parts. But I like the red much better than no outline at all.

Late Entry. Went for a ride with 60 guys from work Saturday. First time I've ever ridden with that many at once. Great way to kill a Saturday.

Got the check from the insurance company to get my M fixed. Will be stopping at the dealer to talk about what needs to be repaired. They did a great job with the insurance agent Now for some new upgrades.

Spent the better part of the day working on "Suzy". Installed a new Sylvania headlamp up front, fiddled with my saddlebag and sissybar mounts, and last but definitely not least INSTALLED THESE...
