I guess only us stouter gentlemen know of the "lump" that irritates the tailbone when riding this bike. Anyhow, the seat is vastly improved with it removed.

I NEED to do this!

Please post more info on what all was involved. Looks as if you had to fab up a new bracket. SO ... details please!

Great job. Red. That looks really good. If I get another seat I might just send it to you to have it done!

glad someone found that nasty lump.
Now to wait for instructions on how to correct it and avoid a $300 seat replacement.

Use Diamond Jim's instructions and you can't go wrong. I'm 6'4" and weigh 260. All I could feel was that lump in my tail...thanks to this mod it is like riding in heaven...trust me !!

Pope, all i did was dremel out the lump, cut a piece of 1/16" or so galvanized plumbing bracket to fit over hole. Added some foam in hole, riveted plate over top. Took old bracket and banged it flat with a hammer and re-bent it to desired angle and riveted that to the new backing plate...took about 1 1/2 hours of fiddling to get it just the way i wanted it. Be patient and it will look nice. I never had to restaple anything. I cut all the way to the back of the seat ( it actually was a mistake, but proved to be even better) and tucked the seat material under the plate. It was a fun project and i'm proud of the outcome. Thanks again DJ...You saved my ass !

The 300 dollar seat is WORTH THE INVESTMENT. Especially if you take the queen for a ride. The saddlemen is very nice. I'm 6'2" also and my a$$ was numb after my 22 mile commute to work. What a world of difference!

I did the same thing to my stock seat and now the stock seat feels good. I used 1/16" thick aluminum for the plate and new bracket. I also did some foam mods to the seat as well. After reading Diamond Jim's post on removing the lump I had the confidense to do it myself. I would have to agree that DJ saved my ass as well.

Thanks

Maybe they were out.

I'm not sure where they are at Home Depot, but at my Lowe's they are in the isle with the bolts, nuts, screws and nails. There will be a section of various pieces of steel and aluminum displayed much like you might see wooden dowels. There will be some short stuff (24"), longer stuff (36"-48") and then some 8ft stuff.

All i did was mill around home depot and found a galvanized plumbing bracket that was small enough to do minimal reshaping on and it cost about $1.50 !

I can't stress how awesome this modification is...I've got a brand new saddleman seat sitting in my closet because this mod has made the stock seat so much more comfortable.

BTW...anyone interested in a brand new Saddleman Tattoo Profiler ?? - $270

k seat mod finally done. there was a contractor in my friend's place and he had the perfect piece of metal. i filled the void with a soft rag tho.... a lil too much.. and now i needa think of a way to take the rag out without disturbing the rivets.

sigh....

As ghetto fabulous as it sounds, I used an old license plate...You don't even have to cut anything. It took one crease and it fits the pan just fine. I used 4 rivets to hold it to the pan and two more rivets with washers to remount the bracket to the license plate with no bending or straightening of the bracket needed. I used a micro-fiber I had laying around and cut it in half and folded it to fit in the lump cavity....rode 350 miles away the next day and returned the day after with no problems...just stop every hour and you'll be fine.
