Default Tachometer

My freind/co-worker has a Ninja ZX-6 and we ride together everyday. We trade bikes alot for fun and his is 0-60 in low 3's vs. my mid 5's. His bike is, lets say, "peppy," and while I'm trying to play catch-up I keep hitting my rev-limiter. I want a tachometer but I have no idea where to start. Help please =)

best thing to do is do a search for tachometer on the forums.

Some people said that they had a problem with idle and rough acceleration when they added a tach.

I always just listen to the engine, when it's getting hard on it, it lets you know

I thought before about adding a tach but ended up deciding that I just don't need it. I ride with a buddy that's on the zx14 and another with a st1300, they have commented on a couple spirited rides how they were suprised to see me still right behind them at times.........and though I do ring the snot out of the M on occasion, I have yet to hit the limiter.

my buddy has a daytona 600 with racing gears I hit rev limiter in second and third trying to catch him from 0-80, not worth it. Cruisers are not sport bikes, If I wanted to win a race with a bike, there are a billion other bikes to get.

I ride with a bunch of people (we have a riding group) and they all ride harley's, victorys and hondas 1300, and finally one of the guys got a C50.

Let me tell you, i do not feel "left behind" with all their big engines and expensive bikes, i have absolutely no problem keeping up with them all.

This line says it all, yep the bike is quick, yep it is nimble, but its still an 800cc cruiser-cant race with it, just sit back and enjoy the ride

You can surely do it, but it is not really worth the money or hassle. If you are trying to ride the M like it's a ZX-6 by keeping the RPMs at max, get a sportbike. Get to know your bike and it will tell you when to shift.

I added a Drag Specialties tach to my M50 this last spring. It was designed for Harleys with one coil and the M50 has two. An adapter was also ordered but it didn't work.

I found an adapter circuit (2 diodes and 2 resistors) on Intruder Alert that worked just fine. If you go with the DS tach (cheap at about $75) the adapter can be made for a few bucks more with parts from Radio Shack.

If anyone is interested I'll send them a schematic IF you send me your e-mail address as I can't figure out how to post it here on this site.

I find I check the tach fairly often and I often shift using it to find the smoother shift points.
