My fan comes on often when its 90 degrees outside; otherwise, I never hear it. Of course, I am in Ohio- where are you burnchassis? The Desert, Mountains, Great Plains, Midwest?

Also, I see you have a nice air filter mod there. Do you have a Power Commander or FI2000 under the seat?

Nice bike, Great Color (the Fastest Color), and WELCOME!!

I only notice my fan coming on when sitting at lights...which isn't very often...but of course it's in the 90's here all the time now...so I kinda expect it to be on.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the kind remarks about my bike....she sounds sweet! Especially in tunnels WOW its loud!
I'll check to see what I have with the aftermarket K&N Thunder intake kit.
Another question... I hear guys talking of a rev limiter?
When does that thing kick in? I have ripped it many times and never a rev limiter...What top speed does that kick in at?
I'm guessing mine has already been fixed!

I am not sure you will be able to go that fast to get to a the rev limiter at top speed, but your rev limiter should kick in if you try to max your speed in first, second, third.

I haven't hit my rev limiter in any gear. I personally don't feel that a V-twin is supposed to rev that high. Go get a CBR or GSXR is you want to hit 9000 RPM.

BTW womper- I love the hitchhiker with the ax picture!

people tend to think i'm a bit... peculiar

well, i'm the type of person that tries to see what the limits of myself and vehicule are...
i don't bounce it off the rev limiter often now... i did to see where the sweet spot was in every gear...

unfortunately, i couldn't hit the rev limiter in 5th... by the speedo i went about 190km/hr... so that means i probably went about 178km/hr or so...
don't plan on doing that often... i just like to know what the real top speed is (without nitro that is)

as for v-twins revving... hmm...
how about the ducati 1089r? (technically an L-twin)
heh...
duc 1089r

i like this part:
"The 1098 R engine represents the finest twin-cylinder technology in the world. It produces 180hp (132.4kW) at 9,750rpm and 99.1 lb-ft (13.7kgm) of brute torque at 7,750rpm in standard mode and an astonishing 186hp when using the supplied race kit (intended strictly for track use only). "

The speedo annoys me. My GPS says I'm doing one speed and the speedo says I'm doing another. Why can't these companies make a speedo that's accurate? Anyone try to calibrate their speedo or buy something after market to make is accurate?

That's been discussed pretty extensively. Try a search.

I just did a search today for something else and the message base is so large now that a search can be a pain (mine returned 500 hits !!) so.....

The consensus seems to be that they read high, up to 10% (reads 66, actually doing 60) and that there isn't much (practical) that you can do about it.

Speedo says I'm doing 65 but PS says I'm doing 58, Speedo: 70, GPS 63, Speedo: 40, GPS: 36.

I'm not sure how accurate the GPS is because it's an old Garmin eTrex Legend and has the old chipset in it but I'm tracking like eight satelites so I have a good signal. I'd much rather believe a billion dollar satelite than a $20 speedo anyday.

I get the same readings off my Garmin Etrex and the speedo reads faster. It's about 6 to 10 km off depending on the speed.

I fixed my speedometer issue last night by calibrating it.

I removed my speedometer. Now its sitting in my garage, reading 0 MPH. Its also going 0 MPH. Viola, Calibrated!

I kinda like the look without the speedo.
Compared to my GPS (and by those roadside speed limit monitors), it ran about 3 MPH too high at 30, 4 too high at 40, 5 at 50, so on. It cleaned up the front end a bit too. I also removed that cable holder that mounts to the underside of the riser, above/behind the headlight. Anyone else notice that it was a dark green, not even black?

RE: Speedo Calibration

I've heard a lot of complaints that the speedos on these bikes are poorly calibrated and I've been driving faster to compensate.

I had the opportunity to test it out this weekend, when a cop caught me doing 68 mph in a 55 mph zone. I happened to be looking at my speedo at the exact time he zapped me, and it read just a hair over 70 mph. So, while it's a little low, it ain't as low as y'all are saying.

Fortunately, he only wrote me a ticket for ten over, not thirteen.
