Default Final Drive Oil Type

I performed my 1000km (or 600mile) service over the weekend - simply changed the engine oil, filter and final drive oil.

I found myself at a non-suzuki dealer in my area (out of convinience and other dealer out of 10W40 oil)......I purchased Motul 10W40 non-synthetic with a generic filter. I'm not too concerned with this but I am with the final drive oil I purchased........The maker is also Motul and the bottle states "Gear Oil SAE75W90" ....it meets all requirements as per manual, but what concerns me is the 75W90......other gear oils at the shop had also different ratings but the mechanic stated this one was the correct one......manual only states SAE90. Also, the original gear oil I drained was clear and the new one was greyish in color.

Did I pour in the correct oil? Does the color matter or simply a manufacturing thing? And is there a requirement for the SAE?
