So I stop into my local HD dealer to see about picking up some gloves. A salesman strolls over to me as I walk in & asks if there was anything I was interested in. I said.."Well...what do you have?". He first shows me this nice big road king. It's got a CD, IPOD, MP3, GPS, CB, AM/FM, awesome speakers, ABS, windscreen, storage and a 4 foot antenna sticking out the back. I get my leg through to the other side...trying to see if I could ever get used to that, wondering how well things would work without that darned big antenna. The bike is nice, but a tad more than I was willing to spend...seeing how I was only looking for a cheap pair of gloves. He next shows me this brand new bike that has this really cool look. He says it's brand new & has this cool engineering feat. The back seat folds up under the main seat. Wow! Bike has a cool look, wicked huge back tire & awesome lines. Except when I sit on it...the seat is as hard as a rock. There is no way anyone will enjoy that for anything more than the ride down to the local biker night to show it off. I go the the V-Rods next. Finally, the seat and layout of the bike feel a bit more comfortable. The bars are nicely swept back and the whole angle of the thing feels good. Except there's that freaking price point again. I'm looking at a 2003 for some $15k. It's got all the anniversary badges & some 2600 miles. So...what would I get for all that? Not enough to make me think of giving up my M50. While my M has a 15k miles, they're all my miles. It runs perfect and I know exactly what to expect from her. She feels good in my hands and is comfortable to ride. Plus...she has to be about the best $6800 I ever spent. |
