Default Shifting Noise???

I have recently noticed that when i go to shift, the shifter or something makes a pretty loud noticeable noise. Is this normal on the M50? I don't recall noticing the noice being this loud. I know it is common for it to make a somewhat of a clicking noise to indicate the shift but this is getting pretty loud. Should i be worried?

Have you changed brands of oil lately , what oil are you using? I noticed a big improvement in shifting when I switched to Syn. Rotella .

All motorcycles clunk a bit, especially the N to 1 at a stop. As long as your oil is topped and in good condition it's probably not a problem.

If the noise is "new" and you have not switched oil or did an oil change lately, it might be that your clutch is getting worn and the noise you hear is of the friction that is caused by the clutch not being fully dis-engaged...

It's really hard to tell what is a cause of a noise without actually hearing the noise

Each "noise signature" has a different meaning and for the tuned ear, that's all you need to diagnose a problem...

I was worried about this when I first got my M as well. My mech pretty much told me don’t worry about it, some bikes are louder than others.

Another issue I have had is sometimes I have a hard time getting from second to first. On occasion its actually impossible once I’ve come to a stop and I just have to start in second gear. My mech adjusted the idle speed to help with this and it did help to an extent, but I have since messed with it and it’s acting up again.

it has always been hard to downshift when the bike is stopped in any gear higher than second. Its like you have to rock back and forth until you can downshift.

I'm not sure if it's only Suzuki but when i took the course, back in the day, on the GZ250 i noticed the same exact problem with the down shift from a complete stop...

Does this clunking have anything to go with clutch adjustment? Does it mean the clutch is not disengaging properly?

Easy shifting but clunking is normal. Difficulty or inability to shift gears is an adjustment issue,

If your worried take it in a mechanic they will know what it is, to say a good one, also the time will come when you get knocked out of gear while shifting this will be due to different footwear ie. Boot to a sneaker, and just not enough pressure. My observations on my bike, I apply a generous amount of pressure going to N down into 1st and then from 1st to 2nd all other gears are smooth but I still hear a clunk

Just roll forward or backwards a little bit and push down to first as you do it. I'm not mechanic by any means, but it seems almost like something gets caught half way through a cycle and you just need to either complete it or back it off and you can switch gears.

There was just a thread on this......

Roll the bike a bit or just simply let the clutch ot a bit...it'll line up the dogs and shift easy as pie.

Mines the same, clunk into first gear is like somebody kicking your crank-case. But it's normal...i actually kinda like it now

I don't mind the noise, but occasionally I'll go to kick it into a gear and the lever just seems to swing loose so I end up clicking it twice for one gear change.
Has anyone else ever seen that? A sports bike rider I've spoken to suggested it's a common complaint with the suzuki racers.

hhmmm not sure about that. yea sometimes it does that when I don't hit it hard enough. usually up not down. but I've only had it happen to me going from first to second.
