So last night I tried to install the lowers I got to try to stop the buffeting from my Memphis Shades Big Shot. A couple of pro tips: 1. Whoever picked which mounting kit to use for the M50 and lowers was smoking crack. The rings they sent that go around the forks were about 1/2" too big on the smallest setting. However, you can mount the lowers to the same fork rings that your windshield mounts to, you just take out the washer that sits between the windshield hardware and the ring. 2. If you have a MC Enterprises highway bar, there's no way to mount lowers so that they won't hit the bar when the wheel is at full lock. 3. If you have a MC Enterprise highway bar, don't ever move your blinkers below your lower triple tree. They'll also hit the highway bar when the handlebars are at full lock. Needless to say, last night was an exercise in frustration for me after I spent almost an hour in my hot garage only to end up with stuff that was totally unusable, not to mention that the lowers didn't stop the head buffeting I was getting. They helped, there wasn't really any wind coming up from underneath anymore, but I'm still getting banged around by air coming around the sides of the shield. I'm convinced that the Pop Top is both too short and too narrow for me. I think that a Memphis Fats is going to be my last ditch attempt at getting a functional windshield for my bike before I just say screw it and cope with the wind. |
