Default Screw in rear tire. How to remove tire

I have a screw in my rear tire, it's been there for a few weeks without any problems. It is now leaking. No one will touch it for under $100. So I am going to breakdown and buy a jack and take the wheel off myself and get it patched. I don't have a manual, so I'm not sure exactly how to take the wheel off. Beyond the axle, what needs to be taken off?

Also, while I've got it off, should I do anything else?? I have about 4200 miles on her. She is an 07 M50.

Thanks.

If it's been there for a few weeks, I'd buy a mushroom plug kit and skip the patch. Or does it have a tube?

it does not have a tube. Would a plug be safer than a patch? No worries of the plug catching and pulling free??

If you're going to take it off, the manual is linked in my signature, and removal is located in Ch. 8, p. 33.

Plug it. Don't take the tire off. A plug can last for years.

Although I would swap out the tires for new sooner than later.

A patch is better, but if you've been riding it for "weeks" (whatever that means), it probably won't tear apart, so a plug is probably fine. Notice the two instances of "probably". The risk is yours to take.

i've put 3 or 400 miles on her since I found the screw. Just went out to look at her again and lucky me, I now have 2 screws.

Thanks for all the feedback.

1 plug is ok. 2 plugs if they're on opposite sides of the tire might be ok.

Personally, I just got the dealer to put on a new rear tire when I picked up a nail. I don't want to find out what a blowout is like when it leaves me with only 1 good wheel, but like was said above, it's your risk to take.

It's actually safe for work. They must have my website flagged for other content

EDIT: Changed to a different webhost. Should pass muster with IT now.

Lucky indeed, if you have been riding 300 miles with a KNOWN screw in the tire. Do you think that was a wise thing to do? I sure don't.

At this point, I would vote for a new tire. That one is a screw magnet !!

And if you keep it, the tire might not be the only thing screwed.

Wow.

The first few seconds is funny, then its not funny anymore. Around 15-20 seconds of watching, it gets funny again.

That was my experience too.
Now it's a constant loop in my brain.

You need a new tire. If you don't want to spend that kind of money then have if patched from the inside. Plugs are a temporary fix on bike tires, yes they can last for years and not leak buy you can do more damage then good using them.

I got a screw in mine, miles from anywhere, 'twas a nightmare. The dealer said theat if the object is in the central bead (which mine was) then yes, you can repair and carry on. Anywhere else, replace it.

However, at the time I couldnt repair mine so when I reached the destination, the tyre was pretty much %%%%ed.

0.02p It's your neck at risk, if it was me.... replace it.
