Default Three times a charm

Got my third nail in my rear tire and yes, maybe a plug woulda' worked but ya know, I figured enoughs, enough. Either it's bad luck or I need to stop window shopping at Home depot whilst on the bike

Anyway, decided to pull the tire and get a replacement, have the shop mount and balance it on the rim and the wifey and I put her back on........and hey, I pulled the shaft too and YEP, she needed lubed, there damn near was no grease in there!!

If ya's change the tire.....LUBE THE SHAFT, well, at least check it.

BTW Got me one of those "wild flare" tires.....ha ha, does look cool though and she, the bike handles well and I almost think she rides smoother too.

I'll edit in picks in a bit.

Well I probably got had, but when I got a wire clothes hanger through my C50's tire the bike shop told me a plug or patch is only a temp fix on a bike tire and you pretty much have to replace it. Is this info tossed around fundamentally for mechs to make more money or is there some truth to it?

There is a LOT of truth to it......or at least a LOT of riders believe it....including me.

I would never patch anything bigger than a carpet tack hole. You don't know if cords were cut, etc. AND the tires are the only thing between you and road rash.......or worse.

For a cheap fix, if you don't hammer your bike, is to get it tubed.

Other than that ..... change it.

BTW Mavman glad to see you up and about again, Sir. I'll bet that ladder in your garage hasn't been used in a long time!

OT--Actually Buster, the steel one helped get me on the roof-(during my surgery recovery a few weeks ago) to's enable me to clean out the gutters. Yeah, the wife chewed me out for that one! And with me not smoking any longer, I've been busy around the house.......wood working/painting/varnishing-staining/riding the MC, and trying to catch up ALL my work during my time off....whew.....maybe I should light up again. J/K!

Anyway....back to tires.

BRILLIANT!

Depending on the size and nature of the puncture, a patch OR a plug AND a tube is even better.
This assumes, of course, that the right size tube is available.

That was common practice ~40 years ago when tubless tires first came out; how soon we forget.
