|  Dead upon impact
I was invited to go for a group ride today from Greensboro, NC to Mount Airy, NC. The plan was to ride highway 89 up there and highway 66 back. We were headed to the Snappy Diner for a burger. It was a really good day for a ride. About 1/2 way between Francisco and Westfield I had a rather large bird fly straight into my chest. I wasn't sure what hit me but when I looked down I saw the bird was dead. I have been hit by some rather big bugs before but never a bird. I wear a full face and was thankful it didn't hit me in the face. I scooped up the bird with my left hand and threw it to the side of the road (that's about the best you can do at 50 mph in a curve). I shudder to think what would happen if a bird impacts someone in the face wearing a half-helmet !! Beyond this brief tragedy, it was a great ride.  |
