Question M50 Shifting Question

Is it just me, or does the bike not allow you to shift into certain gears before you reach a specific speed/rpm? I notice that it seems hard to impossible to get into 5th if I am not around 55MPH so there's an area of around 40 - 50 mph which seems to me a little high in the revs for how the bike seems to like to run.

That brings up another question, how do you all shift to stay in the power band? There's no tach so is there a certain speed at which you typically shift? I saw a little chart of speed/gear in the manual.

The way my M50 seems to work best so far would be massively short shifting on my last bikes, maybe even have them bogging down. I've never had a V-Twin before and any advice is welcome.

Thanks!
