Default I'm an Idiot.

So I did my first maintenance last night and everything went great up until the easiest part, the oil change. Long story short the rubber seal from the old filter stayed on the pedestal and I screwed the new filter on over it. After refilling the bike with oil and starting it my driveway got an oil shower from the lack of seal.

Thats what I get for being in a hurry, oh'well feel free to pick on me, I deserve it.

We all make mistakes. At least you didn't drive for a few miles before you noticed.

I did the same thing in a boat. I did not see that the old "O" ring was stuck on the housing. Boy, did that make a mess. I make it a point to check for that from now on. I bet you will too.

You're right...you are an idiot!

HEY THIS IS FUN!!!

Jk man, We've all done this or something similar. At one time I had an Porsche 944 that kept kicking off spark plug wires...being the bright spark I am, I would pull over and simply reattach it...when the car was running...never did learn my lesson

It's a shame how often that happens, and there's no good way to prevent forgetting.

Lesson learned, bet you will always double check this, and never do it again.

I can claim this one too.

Still got the scar between my left thumb and forefinger where it arced out of my body and onto the fender!! Sent a little bolt of lightning out of me! I felt like I was doing some weird "pop and lock" break dance from where I was plugging the wire in, to where it was arcing.

I know someone. (Isn't me I swear) Who after changing the oil and filter started the bike up, but forgot to put the oil filler cap back on.

Hey, stuff happens. At least you discovered it before a ride and having oil sprayed all over your back tire.

Default I must be the original then!

I did the exact same thing last fall...what a mess it created as i did not notice the oil oozing out all over the drive until I took off down the driveay under a load and the oil was gushing all over...MY first hint was the gurgling sound coming from the engine. I looked down and there was a trail that I used to find my way home again...to a BIg puddle. What a goof!!!

Well, at least it was in your driveway and no damage was done. Oils well that ends well if you ask me.
