When I was learning my trade (mechanic) I did the same thing on a car with 5 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic!! $30 of oil all over the floor. I ALWAYS checked for it after that.

My uncle(mechanic) and I were at his shop and the guy in the next bay did the oil changes. Well we were all talking while he was changing the oil in a little 4cyl car and I know we watched him pour at least 6 or 7 quarts of oil in. But the oil would never show on the dipstick. Turns out he left the filter off being in a hurry and and it kept pouring out as fast as he was pouring it in...hahaha

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to do this, but my old scoot is a bit more complicated.

The o-ring didn't seat quite right in the housing (yes, it's that old) and when I fired it up, I could hear the oil pumping out.

So I changed the oil again, and reseated the o-ring. Which was just a bit too large for the groove it was supposed to fit in (well not large, but long).
