Default New Owner

Hi. New owner of an '05 M50 here . . . and new member of the forum. Bought the bike last week and am looking forward to making it the daily driver. It's bone stock for now, but practically new . . . only 1,950 miles.

Actually that's the job of my little rat-sized dog. That and chewing up everything that I own.

Congrads on the new purchase. I have my M50 for less than two months and I already have close to 2,500 miles on her. I guess the person you bought it from had second thoughts.

I don't see the appeal in lowering it. Why do people do it? Is it just for looks or does it handle better or what other reason? I also don't understand why everyone makes comments about the rear tail light cluster saying it's got to be changed. Personally I think it looks fine other than I wish there were more constant on lights back there. It makes me think that if people didn't like the M50 when they bought it and are trying to change it so much that it doesn't look like an M50 anymore, then why didn't they buy a different bike? I'm not saying it's wrong with them doing what they're doing, I'm just curious.

It's just for looks. Makes the rear tire sit higher up in the fender and gives the whole bike a more low-slung look.

Lowering too much completely kills handling--you scrape over speedbumps and touch down your pipes or frame with hardly any lean angle.

Actually, he has a well modified Honda RC51 . . . and is in med school. He doesn't have time for both bikes. The fast one won.

The other thing about lowering is feel. Mine's lowered 3", and yes it has less cornering clearance, but the feel behind the bars is way different, more laid back. I adjusted the pre-load setting up, so it doesn't bottom out, but I do have to slow down more in turns. It's a trade off.

I lowered mine about 2 inches. When I took it back out of the garage I went down the curb and it got stuck...I was like OH !!! I got it unstuck and took off down the road. Went around my first tight corner and the dang exhaust hit. Now I was thinking "man I really shouldn't have lowered the bike". But then I looked at it again and realized it looks way cooler dropped down. So now I don't go down curbs anymore and take it easy around crazy tight corners.
