I just got home from my daily ride home from work . I always take the back way home because there are some twisty that way .well on the 2nd nice right hand turn I came across a deer standing in my path . I needed to slam on the brakes in the middle of the turn to miss the deer but thanks to the some of the threads here over the last week or so by allot new riders on emergency stops. I went out a few days ago and did a few so THANKS TO ALL I was able to not only remember not to slam the brakes while in the turn I got it up straight then slammed them on I did not hit the deer or go into the ditch on the side of the road . I barley had to put my foot down. this goes to show you keep your eyes up and remember what they taught at the safety course practice when you can.

Nice work! Straightening up first and then braking hard is a crucial skill that riders should practice every few weeks.

Yeah, every day I ride through an onslaught of deer on my way to and from work. In the morning they are crossing from the right...and then on the way home they're on their way back.

Although I know when to expect them..it still pays to be alert.

Bike V 1/2 tonne of deer would equal bike 0 dear 1.

Don`t know what the position is over there about free venison if you hit it, as over here you can`t take if you hit it (Classed as poaching) BUT if some one else does you can.

Glad you got out of it without any tarmac surfing, i know what its like having to come to a stop suddenly because of wildlife running out across the front of you once had two small dear do that to me while two up in the dark, was glad when i got to where i was going as the first beer went down well.

Holy cow! Half ton deer??? I wouldn't hit them with a semi then! A good sized deer here will way 200 - 300 pounds. Still would severly damage bike and rider (if not worse). Here they let you take the deer if you hit it. Otherwise animal control (a city job paid for by taxes) has to come and haul it away and dispose of it. Saves the city money if you take it. I've seen some deer accidents with cars where guys lined up to ask the person involved in the accident if they could have the deer! Cops are usually pretty good about letting it go. That all being said, I've come across deer once while riding and turkey once while riding. Both vary scary moments thankfully I was able to avoid both and nothing bad happened.
