| I reshaped my seat pan and cut out that recessed part in the back where the silver bar is mounted that also mounts to the rear fender. It always felt like I was riding on that hump. The stock cushion is actually very thin right above that hump. I cut a piece of aluminum to cover the area and riveted it. I'll remount the bar to the new aluminum in the back of the seat pan tomorrow. I also replaced a good bit of the stock foam with higher density foam. I like a firmer cushion. It feels much better now. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| I made a new seat bolt down bar for the back this morning and painted it to blend in with the stripes. In the pic, the white mounting bar blends in with the stripe and you can barely see it. Trust me, it's there. You can see it a little in the first pic where the the top of the bar starts to cut off the blue line behind it. I'm gonna see if I can find some white rubber grommets or white nylon washers to replace the black ones and then paint the bolt heads white as well. ![]() ![]() |

| If you wanted to get rid of that tailbone killer with a minimal amount of work, you could: 1. Loosen the back 1/3 of the seat cover and pull it over, uncovering just the top back edge of the cushion. 2. Flip the seat over and cut out the hump with a dremel. 3. Cut a piece of aluminum a litter bigger than the square hole you made when you cut the hump out. 4. Rivet the aluminum piece to the pan. 4. Get a little piece of foam and fill in the recess in the stock seat foam where the foam was contoured to fit the hump, otherwise it will just be open space. 5. Pull your seat cover back over and staple it. 6. Bend the stock seat mount bar a little to fit the new angle and contour of the back of the seat pan. 7. Screw or rivet the seat mount mount bar to the pan. 8. Put the seat back on and ride in much more comfort. Sorry, but my wife already got irritated at the foam dust that was all over the garage, freezer, dogs, children... That foam dust has a static cling property to it and it sticks on everything! |

| This pic shows some of the difference between the modded seat and a stock seat. The seat fits me better and I think it looks sportier than the stock seat. I'd love to have one of the aftermarket custom seats, such as the Profiler, but I just ain't got he funds right now. |

| Nice job. Nice and low. Kind of reminds me of the Granucci seat. http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/fo...cci#post153113

| Thanks for the comments. The trick was that after I shaped the seat, I used two thin layers of cotton batting. I sprayed adhesive on the foam and laid down the first layer of batting and shaped it to the seat. Then I did the same for the second layer. The double layer of cotton batting covers up any uneven spots in the reshaped foam. It is very forgiving. You'd have to do a pretty bad job of reshaping the foam for it to still show through the twin layers of cotton batting. |

| Seat update. The seat mod is still holding up good. I wondered if after some time if any imperfection in the foam contour, unanticipated stress on some staples holding it on or other unforeseen problem might arise. It feels better after trimming the seat pan and removing the hump.

| Are you still able to have the rear seat after this? I like it, but the wife will be irate if she losses her seat. It looks like it would probably feel more like a Yamaha Raider at that point when riding. Last edited by Kooter; 05-08-2008 at 05:28 PM. |

| Yes. It doesn't effect the rear seat at all. The top back edge of the main seat is unchanged in it's dimensions. The plastic lip of the seat pan is still there. You don't cut the whole back out, just a square within the seat pan to remove the bump. With the passenger seat on, it looks and fits just like stock.

| I made the foam mod to my seat a few weeks back and I can feel the hump in the pan more than ever now. This weekend the hump is GONE. Thanks for the great information. My tailbone is going to MUCH happier. Thanks Again Roger L |

| I removed the hump over the weekend and today I rode the bike to work and what a difference. Now I do not have that hard spot in the seat right at the tailbone. I thank you again Diamond Jim for the information. The seat now passes the assometer test. Thanks Again Roger L |

You don't realize how much that bump bothers your tailbone until it is gone. How did you fill in the space? Did you make a new seat-to-fender bracket or did you mod the stock bracket? I made a new one but saw that it was possible to bend the stock one and reuse it. | |
