| I had a thread a while back asking about what you guys liked or disliked about a windshield. I finally got to take the M for a ride with the windshield I got off of ebay. Its been miserable weather here in Pennsylvania, but it did get up in the 60's the day I took the bike out. I'm a bit disappointed. Nick Mistic stated in my old thread, that he had problems with wind buffeting his helmet. He installed lowers to rid himself of the problem. His was the first M50 I've seen with these lowers. I see lots of pics with guys with a windshield on their M50. Even some with the OEM shield that I have. Yet Nick's is the only with lowers.(I've seen) Surely these guys without lowers are having a problem too? How are you guys able to put up with the wind vibrating your helmet like that? It is terrible. I even feel my teeth vibrating. It starts rattling around at slow speed. I accelerated up to 70mph but things didn't change. It didn't really get worse at the faster speed but it was pretty annoying. I wear a full face helmet and there doesn't appear to be any kind of adjustment on the OEM shield. I really would rather not install a set of lowers and am even considering putting the shield back on ebay if I don't figure something out. I like the way the shield keeps the wind off my chest and the ride would be more enjoyable if I could get the wind buffeting to stop. I guess my question is, what do you guys do that don't have lowers? Or what could I try? |

I have a mephise shade windsheild 16 inch from the light and a little wider than yours and I find no problem. I wear a full face because it's been cold since i had the bike and i have no lowers. Now try this ride for about 2 hours on the highway with out that windsheild and tell me how you feel. Maybe during the summer when you can wear a half helment you wouldn't notice it so much.

| This is what I posted on one of those windshield threads; " I have a MS Poptop shield that I have installed as low on the forks as poss. and at as steep a rake as poss. and find it works very well. In fact discovered yesterday just how well; I had modified the chin vent on my full face helm to try and get a little more air to my face . While testing didn’t seem to be helping as much as should have, then realized I had the shield on which directs wind flow to top half of helmet, so by-passing chin vent. I took shield off to see how that would work and wow, bike has to struggle more to get thru the wind (my big body getting in the way), a lot more buffeting (there is almost none with shield even a high speed (90+ mph)), and a whole lot more wind noise-although the chin vent mod worked very well. Put the shield back on today before going to work and am now back to slipping thru the air with less resistance, less noise and no helmet buffeting (and a little less air to the face). I think I’ll keep the shield and use an open face helmet w/face shield for the summer. I originally installed the Poptop shield with the "designed" height/angle and had a huge amount of buffeting-totally un-usable." here's a link to one of those threads: http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/fo...o-s-con-s.html

| I put on of these on, originally I set it up so (as I guessed) the wind would go over my head, but nooooo. Buffet central. Raked it back to break on my chest and smooooooooth air across my dial all day... deep joy. and No buffeting. BTW it is a Puig. |

| from what I read, the OEM shield is a nightmare design. It needs a lot of adjustment to not shake your teeth out, and the design makes it tough to really adjust it that much.

| Oh ya I had to add a few aluminum brackets to do this. I would advise against the $300 oem and look through Dennis Kirk. if i were to do it over.

| I had the same problem with the OEM shield on my Marauder. It was simply too short for me (I'm 6'6"). Put on a Memphis Shades 21" a couple of years ago and couldn't be happier.

| Mine is a stock OEM shield. Call me stupid, but I really can't see how it is adjustable. It just seems to clamp on in only one position. Maybe I'm missing something. I have the fork clamps as high as possible. |

| I have the Memphis Shades Ally cat and Big Shot with no lowers, although I have thought about getting them, more to keep wind off of my legs than for head buffeting. I use the smaller Ally Cat in the warmer weather, and the larger Big Shot when the weather gets colder. Both work fine and I get very little head buffeting. They are also affordable, and easy to switch out as they use the same hardware. BTW, the picture below, in my sig, shows the Ally Cat.

| I have a Hellcat (can't take the credit, the previous owner put it on). I wear a fullface and have no buffeting. I was going to take it off for looks, but I couldn't imagine riding on the highway without it.

I do remember reading in the instructions about it being adjustable. I wonder if yours just needs adjusting or fine tuning. I haven't found buffetting out of the one I have. Now that's Suz on the back. But heck I can run the thing up to 110 and it's smooth. Without the shield the wind pulls me back.

| I have National Cycles Street Shield EX windshield, but not for much longer. Seeing the pictures and the posts have convinced me that the Memphis Shades Hell Cat is a better windshield. I had a constant love-hate relationship with the street shield, it was great for keeping the wind off of my chest, but I hated the plastic mounting brackets, and hose clamps around the forks. So I ordered my Hell Cat today, so that I may get it, and install it before our ice age here breaks and I can get out on the road. Thanks to all who shared their pictures and comments.
