Default Sportster vs. M50 - Comfort, Handling, Speed,

I have not ridden on a Sportster...Is there a major difference in power/speed, comfort and handling, between the 1200 and the M50?

I met a rider last weekend who was out riding on his brand new Sportster 1200 Custom. While we were comparing bikes in the 40 degree temps, he mentioned to me that he thought my M50 should handle better than his 1200 Sportster because of the bigger forks, fatter tires, and low riding profile.

Studying the Sportster last Saturday, I am inclinded to think the M50 may be more comfortable, and better handling. I do not know about the power of the Sportster. I do know I have to hold on tight when I accellerate hard.

My new friend's Sporty (he calls it that) was really great looking in Blue Suede with a big 19" laced wheel in front. It looks like it has a much higher center of gravity, and that intimidates me a little (maybe until I ride on one). But, a great looking bike nonetheless.
