| I'm a new rider... Just bought a slightly used 06 M50 w/ 2700 miles. So far, I've only put 11 miles on it myself. The previous owner did not do the 600 mi check, maybe just an oil change. The engine seems fine, but the bike vibrates a bit going over 35 mph. I don't know if that is normal. I also just noticed that the air pressure is a bit low (22/26). Weather's getting cold. I'll fix that of course when I have a chance. Should I be worried? How important is it to have the bike checked out during the break in period? Also, since I just bought the bike, I don't want to get shafted at a dealer. What's the best way to get the bike serviced, without opening myself up to major cash outlays? | I think a lot of people don't do the valve thing at 600 miles. I read here somewhere where either it was a mechanic or they were repeating what a mechanic said in that pretty much every time they've opened them up to do the valve check that no adjustments were needed. There are people on here with more experience that can give you a better idea.

| There are a few things that I've read on here that people have had rattle in the past. Where the fuel tank is bolted down to the frame is one place. Someone also discovered it was their key chain in the ignition that was rattling.

Unfortunately, I don't have any friends near by that ride. I only got the bike for leisure, so I won't have a chance to get on it again until next weekend. I'm hoping that getting the tire pressure to normal will help. At the 600 mile check, in addition to valve checks, do they tighten bolts as such? I would think that if it was assembled properly, they wouldn't need to be doublechecked. EDIT: Sorry guys, not a rattle.... just vibration. Enough to notice the mirrors getting fuzzy. (Maybe I'm just paranoid). This is the first used vehicle I have purchased in over 20 years. At least for cars, I prefer to buy new, and drive them into the ground. | Thanks Jim & Rockhead, I feel much better. I guess I can procrastinate until spring... By then, I hope I will feel comfortable enough riding to go visit some friends in North Jersey that can check it out for me. I'm not keen on NJ highway traffic just yet. Honestly, I was pretty distracted while riding, that's why my description is so poor. Lemme just say, I'm glad I had a full face helmet..... to hide the stupid grin on my face |

| I've done no such service... bought mine new in may '05. No problems yet. What milage are you at, and is it stock? Both could explain the extra vibration, as with mine.

Edit: Thanks... definitely adds to my concern for my psychological well being. Last edited by SteveI; 11-04-2007 at 10:20 PM. | |
