Default Just bought an 08 M50

Traded from a Bandit 1200S.

Any reliability issues with the M50 or any quirks I should know about?

2800 miles on my '07 and no problems. Just out of curiosity, shouldn't you have asked that question BEFORE you bought the bike?

Just found this forum. I have heard nothing but good things about the M50 from people; however, this is a large forum, more people to ask about things.

I have a 06 M50, and have done 14,000 km in the last 11 months.

Had a Intake Air Pressure Sensor fail, but that could happen to any bike. (electrickery, can't understand it!)

I added a TFI unit, modded the intake, debaffled, added braided lines, and a LOUD stebel horn, a rear rack, and the road beckoned.

Much better bike after the mods.
Ride every day, rain, heat etc. Use it as my only transport.

I'v got 5000 miles on an 07 M50, no problems at all, except an incurable addiction to riding. Which I guess really isn't a problem.

Go over the bolts ever once in a while. One that has caused problems with alot of us seems to be the three bolts holding the up the taillight.

i've had my 05 for 2 years now with about 20k miles and the only issues were the aforementioned bolts and the tank squeek. if you hear a high pitched squeek it is the rubber pucks for the tank. i put a little piece of felt on mine and no more squeek. other than that the only thing i have run into is the incessent need to modify it.

like other have said... loose bolts on the taillight assembly... lost 1 bolt there.

other than that you'll want to save up some money... those mods can get expensive

No major problems for me. I had a faulty safety clutch housing replaced but it was covered under warranty.

1 yr now, 4500 miles. Not a single issue to report. However, I did pull off my diff. and lube the splines when I heard some people talk about issues caused by dry shaft splines. BTW, mine weren't dry.

i have an 06' 10k miles on mine. No failures what so ever. but i also do prev. maintenance. I relubed my rear wheel. There was a case of somebody having the splines chatter when rolling it around in the garage. come to find out they took off the rear wheel and relubed the splines cause they looked like they didnt have any. and then the problem went away. i didnt lube mine until about 9 k and i never had this chatter issue but i was in there anyways so i lubed it. my splines looked fine no wear or anything. dont worry about until you have to change tires then just lube the splines. but like i said 10k no problems.

I remember i did have a problem with my right case cover bolts were loose. and had some oil seepage at the front right side of the case, but i just tightened them up and no problems.

i wouldn't call it an issue to worry about. it happened to a single bike so it was very very isolated. i don't remember who it was but the splines sheered if i remember correctly. in fact i think it was one of my north carolina bretheren. again, i wouldn't worry about it at all. just check it the next time you take your rear wheel off.
