Default Corbin seats - I thought Oneida was cheaper?!?

I'm looking to pick up a new seat, and I think I've got it narrowed down to either the Corbin Dual Tour or Classic Solo. From reading past threads here it seemed like Oneida Suzuki was the place to go for a good deal on the seats, but when I check the prices they're $50 more than getting the seat from Corbin direct. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just plain black leather. What happened to the good deal?

Is there anywhere that still sells either of these seats for cheaper than direct from Corbin?

I notice every now and then Oneida will have sales on certain items. Maybe the sale for the item is over.

Corbin just dropped their price by about $150 for the dual touring saddle. I want to know if Corbin's Canadian distributor is going to do the same, I'm waiting on an email from them but I'm not holding my breath !
By the way are you a fan of Father Ted ?

The Classic Solo dropped $160.00 in price as well. I bought one in late July for $499 and now they run $339. Despite the higher price, the Classic Solo was a good buy and is light years beyond the stock seat. When I get on the bike now it feels more like I sit in the seat rather than on it. I've got around 500 miles on it and find I don't get sore or tired like I used to.

I talked to a rep from Corbin trying to find a way to have their backrest on the pillion for the Classic solo. She said they restructured their distribution and reduced overhead so everything came down a few $$. I still can't get the backrest on the pillion, but it'll cost less and I can always go with the suzuki giant-mount backrest.

Onieda buys in bulk to be able to provide a discount. I'd imagine their current inventory was purchased at the old prices. It depends on how they handle their inventory management but you usually wouldn't price an item for less than you bought it for regarless of what the manufacturer is doing unless you are planning on some serious volume sales to make up for the temporary negative margin.

Well, I e-mailed Corbin to find out if they had any seats in stock. I got a reply today that they had one each of the classic solo and dual-tour. I decided to go the classic solo route, so I e-mailed back and asked if I needed to do anything special to get the one I had in stock instead of them thinking it was a new custom build. The sales rep said he could call me and take my order now, so I did that. Apparently it's going to be black leather with chrome studs (I would have picked plain, but studs look ok). Total after shipping was about $365, not bad at all. He said it will ship tomorrow and should be here in 3-5 business days. I'm headed to the Lake O' the Pines rally next weekend, so I should be able to write up a decent review with several hundred miles of seat time after that.

Man, I paid like $550 for my dual tour seat. No biggie though cause I love the seat. One of the best things to happen to my bike. Not to mention that the woman loves it to.

Don't feel bad, that's about what they wanted to charge for the dual tour.

Hmm, and it appears that Oneida has dropped their prices. Maybe they lurk here?

Corbin hasn't sent me anything saying they've shipped the seat and my credit card hasn't been billed. I badly need the seat by Thursday, so I went ahead and ordered from Oneida as well. I'm going to contact Corbin and try to cancel my order.

Well, just heard from the Corbin guy, they already shipped my seat and I've ordered one from Oneida already.

Anybody want a decent deal on a Classic Solo seat? I think it's going to be black leather with chrome studs, new in box.

Installed the new seat last night. Definitely a different feel. It's much firmer than the stock seat and there's no doubt about where you're supposed to sit on it since it's more of a bucket than a big pad like the stock. Seems to sit a little higher and more forward. The "boys" definitely rest on the tank if you've got a big butt like mine but not in an uncomfortable way. Ground reach is diminished a bit because you're moved forward--your thighs have to do more reaching around the tank because you can't quite put them down on the narrowest part of the bike like you could with stock. Not bad though, but you do lose maybe 1/2" to 1" of leg reach so if you're barely flat-footing with the stock seat you'll probably be on your toes a bit with the new seat.

On the upside, the firmer seat and the bucket shape really make you feel like you're part of the bike. On the old seat it felt like I was sitting on a big motorcycle while I was riding. With the new one, I feel more attached. With being scooted forward a bit, it's much easier to grip the tank with my legs. It feels more like riding my Ninja, where my lower body feels like part of the bike. I've got a big ride out to a rally this weekend, about 200 miles each way plus whatever riding we do while we're out there so I'll post a separate review after that's done.

Wow, surprised to hear that it sat you higher. I have the classic solo and it sat me lower than stock by about an inch. That was one of the reasons I added forward controls to get some extra leg room back.
