Default Oil Leak? Say What????

Yup I have an oil leak. Seems to be comming from the oil filter itself. Only noticed this after I had the 11,000mi. service done. It isn't drastic, but it will leave a pool about the size of a CD if I let it sit for 24 hours. Has anyone else had an oil leak?? And also what in the world would cause this to happen other than a filter that was put on incorrectly (which I assume is what has happened.) Thank you in advance for any reply.

I heard of old filter gaskets being stuck and left on when changed.

Is this filter on tight enough? The manual requires two turns after contact with the mounting surface.

+1 Two full turns after contacting the block.

Could be an incorrectly seated gasket.

Maybe they used the old filter?

Eh....I'd say just have it re-done and see what happens from there. It's probably nothing.

Good luck!

Maybe a defect in the filters oil ring.

Default Oil Leakage!!!

I've double-gasketted (sp) before on my truck and spilled oil everywhere. So if you had done so I'm sure there would be major problems. Looks like a defect in the product or installation.

I had the same thing happen to me after I did my first oil change. The filter wasn't tightened all the way. I just turned it a couple of more times, and no more problems.

be careful of oil leakage. one of the guys layed an SV down out in gatlinburg, tn due to a double seal. oil will get on your rear tire and make it slicker than snot on ice. check it before you ride it anywhere.

Thanks everybody. I called the stealership and I'll be taking it in tomorrow. I think I'll go take a better look at it and check how tight it's on anyway. Once again thanks for the input. If I were to be driving an 1990- harley I woulnd't be so concerned, but it's a suzuki
