Default M50 audio files

Hi, I own a 2006 M50 (In Europe it's called M800).
Great Bike! Sound sucks though.
I'm very eager to replace stock pipes but want to hear first and then decide which to buy.
Can please, please, anybody tell me where to find sound files of different exhaust brands on the 2005-2007 M50?
C50 will do as well.

Thanks from Europe/Holland- Bernie

Do a search on YouTube, there's quite a few video files of exhausts although it's very hard to judge the difference in sound volume. Also, it seems americans find loud exhausts much more acceptable than elsewhere - riding with 2-foot-long open pipes is the best way to get the rozzers' attention in New Zealand...

I have a pair of V&H Cruzers which arrived yesterday and which I'll install on Friday, so I'll let you know how they compare. On looking at the original pipes, I think the previous owner has drilled the stock baffles so my wife shouldn't find the new pipes too offensive.

Hi Angusdog, I consider V&H Cruzers as well. In Europe the M50 has a O2 sensor. I wonder whether the V&H has a connection for this as I understood that US models have no sensor.
And yes, many files on YouTube, but few on M50. And those sound very poor in compare with other bikes.
Found for instance many Yam/Dragster650 files with great sound already.
There has got to be a way to make this M50 real good.
Hope your Cruzers do the job!

also look for the C50. Same motor, same pipes. Same sound.

I have personaly heard my m50 de-baffeled and it dosen't sound the same as any sound clips I have ever heard.
You are only going to get an "idea" of how it sounds on a clip--it will sound verry different in real life.
on a sound clip I heard cobra's on our bikes and they sounded kinda quiet.
In real life cobra's are verry loud and annoying (to me anyway) kinda like a harley sound's.
Your best bet is to find someone in your area that has pipes and listen to them for yourself.

Hi Bernie,

Yes, you are quite right. The US spec bikes have no sensor, while the bikes shipped to Europe, Australia and New Zealand do. So the V&H pipes have nowhere to put it. There's two options - disable the sensor by disconnecting one of the wires (so the FI light on the 'dash' doesn't come on), or weld on a nut to the pipes in a similar fashion to the stock pipes.

I'm going to disconnect the wire in such a way that I can reconnect it if I change my mind (or if it doesn't work). I will then need to weld a nut onto the pipes, which I'd rather not do as it means disturbing the lovely chrome finish.

Where exactly does the O2 sensor attach? I assume in the header pipe?
If it will fit between the pipe and the bike, you could attach the nut on the inside of the pipe.
Also, (I'm using what I know about the Straightshots here, but I figure it's same for Cruzers) the actual header pipe is not chromed. It has a 220 degree chrome heat shield that attaches to it. If it goes in the header pipe, you might still be OK to not damage the chrome finish.

The O2 sensor is near the pillion peg, but I'll have a look at the Cruzers on Friday and see how inoffensively I can mount it. The Cruzers do have the same heat shield, but only up to the silencers (sorry, "loudeners" )
