| I am looking to get a different bike and I was wondering what any of you guys that have traded in your bikes lately have gotten for them. I have about 5,000 miles on the bike, I also have all the stuff in my sig on the bike, I was hoping to get at least $4,400 for the bike...do you guys think that is unreasonable?

| I would suggest parting out before you trade. you'll maximize your value that way. all that stuff doesn't mean as much on trade as it does in pieces.

| It is reasonable, but they make big bucks on trade ins. My guess is they will give you around $1K less, and sell it for $5K. Your better off selling private, you will never win with a trade in.

| well, there's no question that you never get what you would if you sell it outright if you trade it in, be it car or bike. But, in his case, he's got alot of aftermarket goodies, and they don't add value to the bike. If its a stock 05 w/5000 miles, or in its current condition, its worth the same.

| Throttle Jockey ![]() | Trade in value won't be what you want. According to my dealer...my mint condition M50 (all stock) is barely worth 4k on a trade in. According to him, it would take trading in my M50 & a Honda I have ($2k value)...and then I would only have to pay about $6.5k to get my new Blue M109R. I decided against it...all I would really get was a much faster and cooler looking bike...but I would lose 2 bikes I like to ride and some cash...to me it didn't seem like a worth while deal. Maybe I'm just too cheap? |

| Never bought / traded with a dealer. Never plan to. Best bet, buy the bike you want and work on selling yours (yes you will be tight on money for a couple weeks / months, but when somebody asks why you're selling - pointing to the replacement does all the talking). Once I bought a bike and asked the owner why they are selling, they just pointed to a much nicer, much newer bike and I didn't need any more explaining. Besides, you can always get a loan on a newer bike for the whole price, if you need to. |
