I was just thinking about this today.......but first a comment:

If you get a bike (or anything else off of ebay that is worth a lot of $$$) without seeing and riding it first, you are a dumb ass.

Back to shipping: Assuming you are NOT a dumb ass and you are going to see the bike, then you might want to consider renting a U-haul (or similar) truck one way and doing it yourself.

I have to disagree,

I bought a truck off E-bay never drove it. I have had it 3 years now and the truck is great. no it was not a toy truck either it is a Ford f-350 Crewcab 4x4 with 8' bed I have been offered 2x what i paid for it and won't sell..

Anyways for shipping where are you going from and to? best bet is LTL carrier that is nationwide. bike will need packed on a skid and dropped off for shipping tho... make sure its strapped down very very well. and protected as you see fit..

you might have made a good deal but shipping can kill a sale and if it gets damaged then it's even worse.

worse case fly to the bike and drive her home !!

You can disagree all you want but that won't change the facts.
Your one individual experience does not change the FACT that buying sight un-seen is NOT a smart thing to do. It just isn't.

It may not a smart thing to do, but I have done it as well. Do your homework, at least the best you can. If you can't travel, get someone local to look at it for you. I had a Landcruiser shipped from Colorado without an issue, but I would be really concerned about shipping a bike. I have seen where the good companies will strap it to a pallet and crate it up.

I ran carfax reports and such before i bought had title checked etc. I had about 100 photo's of the truck taken for every angle. i asked for scanned copies of work performed etc..

Yeah I would rather see it in person but sometimes you just can't .

So let's help this guy get his new bike shipped so he can ride...

Old Dominion
Yellow Freight
Werner
Crete Carrier Corp

Those are generic shippers of freight.

Now better option would be dedicated motorcycle shipper such as one of the following :
EagleOneExpress - Home

nice place with pricing if your not in a huge hurry to get it and can let it take it's time.

Motorcycle Shipping Pricing, Motorcycle Trucking, Motorcycle Moving Service, ship a motorcycle

So there are 2 reputable companies.. the second is a good option 600 bucks to just about anyplace in the US and they have skid to put bike on and cover it as well..

good luck

fly to where it is, ride it home. Done. Make an adventure of it.

And I'll third, or fourth the idea of buying site unseen being a really bad idea. I'd hold out for one that's closer to you that you can ride/touch/feel/molest before you part with any sort of hard earned cash.

i have to agree with the sight unseen notion. i bought an old ford bronco from ebay sight unseen. i picked it up in PA and drove it back to NC. it was a great truck until i changed the oil. i did the old deisel cleaning trick and every nook and cranny on the block started leaking. i only paid $1500 for it and had a replacement engine for it which i got for free, so it all ended well. looks can be very very deceiving. i think you made the right choice to wait. if you haven't already craigslist is a good source for local bikes.
