Default Melting Headlight lenses with brigher bulbs - Still an issue?

I am planning to put a brighter bulb in my headlight, and after pounding through many threads regarding this subject, I found where in some cases where the Headlight Reflector and/or Lens are plastic, that a higher wattage bulb would melt them.

Does this apply to the M50 or is it save to put in any of the many bulbs used by members of this forum?

Thanks for any conformation.

Bump,

Someone has to know if this was ever resolved or not, the other thread that dealt with this just stopped, right when it appeared that is might have been resolved. It was never confirmed, however.

Anyone??????????????????

I would assume as long as you use a standard 55/60 watt bulb you would be fine. The Piaa bulbs that I use are 55/60, but with 125/135 light output. In other words the bulb is for all intensive purposes the same as stock, yet much brighter and more clear.. I had a Honda Civic SI that I put 100 watt bulbs in and it melted the wiring harness, so I went with Plasma lights with the same wattage as stock, but higher light output and it worked very well..

I think there are a few members who have changed to Sylvania SilverStar H4ST bulbs. I don't know if there are any melting issues with these.

I use the Silverstar. I've had no problems with melting but they do not last as long as stock. I had to replace mine (with another Silverstar) after about a year. They are significantly brighter and worth it, in my opinion. -Red

I can definitely vouch for the H4 Sylvania Silverstar bulb... Noticeably brighter and whiter then a regular stock bulb, much better for visibility.

Same Here! Replaced my stock with the Sylvania and it is SUPER bright!
When I ride alone(not group) I use the high beam and often get flashed by cars that dont like my BRIGHT light ! Anything we can do to be seen better is a plus! I bought the 2 pack so I have an extra, still going strong since Dec 06.

Silverstar is still a 55/60 watt bulb. I've been running a 55/100 since bike was new , 03/05, without any electrical issues.
