Default Cobra Streetrods on, whoa!

I got my Cobra Streetrods today. I put them on tonight after work and got to take it for a short ride before the sun went down. What difference! The bike looks completely different now, and the sound is incredible! Its too dark right now to take pics, I'll post some tomorrow. I don't really notice any difference in power, but it sure seems to run smoother. I used to think everyone was crazy that put pipes on claimed to be running a lower rpm at the same speed as before. I know its not possible, but it sure feels like it! Opening up the exhaust sure makes it run a lot smoother, making it feel like its at a lower rpm. My Power Commander and Drag Specialties Tachometer also came with the pipes today, they'll be going on tomorrow. My Tornado is on backorder, so who knows when I'll get to install that. More to come as I install my parts!

do the cobra streetrods have a hidden crossover built into the pipes? I thought I heard this somewhere, but don't know for sure

No, they don't have a crossover, heck I don't even think they have baffles. They just have some little louvres in the muffler that point toward the end of the muffler and they don't seem to do anything to quiet the thing down. It sounds really cool, but if you live around noise sensitive neighbors, these may not be for you.

Where are the pics you promised?

I would love to see those street rods on your bike.

I am looing for an exhaust system, and it seems that most riders are vary happy with the streetrods.

Standing by for the pics.............

Mave and EasyEC

Are those the Cobra Street Rod Slashdowns, because that is the exact look that I have been trying to find.

They are much lower and smaller than the stock pipes while keeping the same overall look as stock, with that carateristic M50 slant cut at the tips, which I really like.

I was going to wait for new pipes, but I need to install large saddlebags, and need to lower the pipes to fit them, soI am now in the market for new pipes as soon as I get past the 1000 mile brake-in service.

Please tell us all you can about these pipes, like what the sound is like, and if there is an appreciable performance gain, etc.........................

Also, where is the least expensive place to purchase them?

Thanks for any and all info on these pipes.

my seat of the pants review wouldn't be a good one due to the fact that I almost simutaneously added an airkit and pc3 when installing the pipes, were they necessary? I don't know, but that's what I wanted to do and that's that....

....the sound is like that of the V&H staightshots but seem a tad lower in the rumble area. (there was a vid clip of the straightshots around here somewhere for comparison/a feel from what I said.)

A sound bite from me would be sadly just be a crap load of type--i.e.--"potata...potata", I thinks someone posted a vid clip of them but I can't remember for sure.

Their definately louder than stock, and rap like music to my ears when I wrap on the throttle, I did tone them down by wraping the baffles in fiberglass, so's not to blister the eardrums of those behind me though and now for me, they are perfect.

One other thing to keep in mind if purchased........is put the heat shields on before installing the pipes on the bike, I didn't and they seemed somewhat of a pita to get on....otherwise everything went well.

Where to buy, well all I can tell you, is that there's cheaper to be had then where I went. Just make sure their shipped in a well packaged box and your set.

I did find them here a while back and mentioned the web site in post.

Street Parts > Exhaust > Cobra

406.99

I've ordered from them before and had great service. Might google for prices and/or give them a call and see what ya think.

hope that helps.

Default Still not posative what these pipes are..........

Hay Mav,

Thanks for the info.

Not to be a PIA but I do need to verify that these are in fact Cobra Street Rod Slashdown. I assume they are, is this correct?

Don't want to order the wrong thing.

Per your comments on the loudness, I believe I will order the packing for the baffles at the same time, so I have it if they are simply too loud.

BTW, in the stock condition, can you keep them quiet if you stay light on the throttle?

nope, not a pia at all.....my fault.......YES, They are the slash downs.

and no.....not bad at all if light on the throttle. But ya see.....I don't think there bad at all, regardless, especially after the packing added to deaden the "chirp" some.

This is the packing I bought

Hey ONB, As Mav confirmed they are the slashdowns. I love the look and the sound. My friend with his Harley is just itching to get something louder...lol

I can only compare to stock C50, same pipes, and my wife can hardly hear her bike when I'm in front of her. KickA$$ rumble and when you hit the throttle, let's just say it rocks!

I found some on eBay a while back for like $300. mostly I've seen them at $400 though. I too have the FI, the Cobra 2000 and the Kury HC, so I don't know what it's like without all the pieces. Not too good at sound clips, but I'll try to get something posted.

Thanks guys,

I really appreciate the info.

Few questions regarding the install:

1) BTW, outside of the heat shield clamps confusion, how hard is it to install a set of these pipes?

2) Will I need new gaskets, since my bike is still under 1000 miles?

3) Do I need a torque wrench, and if so, can you recommend what type and size?

4) Is there a how-to on wrapping the baffles with the fiberglass?

Thanks again,
ONB

no harder than any other after market replacment part really....just take your time and follow the directions

2) Will I need new gaskets, since my bike is still under 1000 miles? I went with new gaskets?

some with under a grand have used the originals, me I replaced them-(played it safe)

3) Do I need a torque wrench, and if so, can you recommend what type and size?

I myself didn't use one, but that doesn't mean u shouldn't, I think it 15 lbs of torque, yet, don't quote me on that.

4) Is there a how-to on wrapping the baffles with the fiberglass?

you'll get the idea after taking a look at the pic that comes with the packing. I got some wire from Ace hardware to do mine.

Thanks again,
ONB
